Default For dirty low rotten gits only

Edit due to Thors Comment:

For you devious gits out there here a way around Boss Zagstrukks deepstriking rule:

Attach any of the HQ choices except for Maddok Grotsnik to a squad Da Vulchas with Boss Zagstrukk before deployment. Since the the HQ model does not have a rokkit pack to Deepstrike with Da Vulchas lose their ability to deepstrike. This means they must now enter during normal deployment. Turn one detach the HQ model and attach him into a different unit. Now the Da Vulchas and Zagstrukk are free to cause mayham.

Minor problem, Grotsnik can't leave a unit he's joined unless he's the only member left, IE: everyone else is killed.

Also, you cannot deploy your other choice attached, that has to be done on turn one.

Irasummers reference pg 48 under special rules. IC are allowed to Join a squad during deployment.

I don't think it is possible, though. The wording is "ICs can be joined to a unit during deployment if placed next to them" (loose translation from German).

Since you don't even PLACE the Vulchas on the table, because they have to start the game in reserve, you cannot place your IC next to them. The unit the IC has to join has to be placed on the table for the IC to be able to join, which is not possible with the Vulchas in the first place.

Cheers,
-Bone

I'm with Bonesaw on this.

Agreed. Swoop Attack says that they must Deep Strike. An HQ can not be attached in that case unless they also have that ability (like an Autarch with Hawk Wings for example.)

Please forgive me though. I'm not sure exactly what the gain would be by doing as you describe. Is the point to avoid the Deep Strike, but keep the Boss in the unit? If so, that seems to defeat the purpose of having the Boss there in the first place if you really don't want to deep strike the boyz.

Zagstruk has other, shall we say, attractive attributes, such as his ability to have at initiative Power Klaw strikes. So Deep Striking is not the only reason one would select him.

I agree with Thor and Bonesaw. It seems like a rather underhanded way of playing the game. Swoop Attack states, quite obviously, that "Zagstruk and da Vulcha Boyz must enter the battle via Deep Strike". And I don't want to argue the point have have this turn into a replication of the "Instinctive Behavior" thread in Tyranids. That was ugly.

It wouldn't work. The rules are too clear on how he has to be deployed. That would take precedence over anything you did. Your opponent would be able to make just as clear a case that you couldn't deploy the unit at all if you attached another character to it.

He should, for the cost of five additional Stormboyz. Still, it seemed like wasting part of his bonus if you don't use it. Most would consider Deep Strike to be a strategic asset.
