I'm really loving my orks, I mean really love them I love them so much I want to build a heavliy themed ork army boarding on the insane. So after carefully reading the codex I've discoverd I can squeez 8 Battle Wagons in a list. (or so I think )
so with 2 warbosses, 5 Nob mobs and 3 heavy support slots I can field 8 Battle Wagons but how can I make this force playable? KQD

How to make it playable? Who cares, strap a killkannon on every Battlewagon and laugh maniacally and you pound the enemy with Ordnance. :P That's what an Ork would do anyway.
Honestly, I'm not sure how much credible advice I can give about Orks, never having played them, but I would probably make a few dakka BWs with big shootas and regular kannons to keep points down and still have alot of firepower to throw at the enemy. I would also load them up with boyz, if they aren't carrying Nobz. If you wanted to keep people from crying cheese you may want to limit the number of KK battlewagons you take, but I personally would take probably 4 with and 4 without. I think this army would be a blast to play against. I'm kind of different from alot of gamers though. If I see a crazy army idea that's meant more for just absurd fun, like an 8 killkannon battlewagon army, I'd be dying to play against it just cause it would be hilarious to see that amount of firepower being launched from a bunch of rickety old Ork vehicles. The absurdity of it is so funny. ;D |

Well, you could pull this off but you'd need insane points levels. 2 nob squads as troops is nowhere near enough for 5th ed rules. But put in 3x20 boys in that and you got yourself a nice, huge, playable but not necessarily competitive force. The 8 wagons alone will cost you an insane amount of points, like minimum 720 without upgrades. Add a few killkannons and bigshootas and youre set for 1200 points minimum. Add armor plates, ard cases, deff rollas and all the other goodness and youre nearing - what... 1600? Now add a warboss and 2x8 nobs, with gear, thats nearing 2500. Add some boys mobs for the fun of it, say 3x30 and you got yourself a nice (easy) 3000 points + force of utter orky doom.
Effective? Dunno... How many rail guns/ missile launchers /bright lances /carnifexes /daemon lords /land raiders can an enemy field in 3000+ points? A lot... |

I've read Wargamers tactica on Armoured companies and now I have an Idea on how to play this type of force. I have to really on moving to keep BattleWagons alive and also going to need to protect my flanks and rear. I'm going to try a mix of armoured company tactics with rhino rush with a little bit of a driveby as well. I have an army list in mind and I need help filling the blanks.I would like maybe another battlewagon looted tanks and either buggies or deff koptas to protect the flanks and rears of my force.
HQ Warboss Troop 1 Nob mob with battlewagon transport Troop 2 20 shoota boys mounted in battlewagon Eilte 1 Nob nob with Battlewagon transport Heavy 1 Battlewagon I haven't decided the setup of my bettle wagons except that I want them all the be opentop and deff rollas. KQD

I ran 3 battlewagons at a tourny at the start of the year. 2 were geared for transport, the other a killkannon dethmachine. Dont use killkannons. The range of the weapon really doesnt justify the points. I found the transport geared battlewagons worked excellently, both were armed with big shootas and deffrollas, and always managed to deliver their cargo, then just rolled around and blocked LOS
Theyre also a lot cheaper than their killkannon variants.

a quick question about the Deff rolla. It say tank shocked units takes D6 S10 hits and units making death or glory action takes 2D6 S10 hitswether or not they stop the battlewagon.
is this ture? can I ram a Carnifex and squish it to death? KQD
