Default Maybe Joining the Mob, but don't really know what the boyz are like

I maybe 'joining the mob' in the near future, however, i don't have the codex and would like a low down on the orks, but also some information on indevidual weapons/units. Since i haven't got the codex i'm not sure if this idea would work but; I like the shoota boyz models and i'd like to know how effective it would be to have shoota boyz marching forward while firing then charging into combat with their two attacks each? Has anybody done a unit tactica for the new ork codex yet?

It's illegal to post codex stats lest GW smite us from above with copyright infractions. That said, Shootas work well if you're planning to assault Beakies or Panzees (Eldar/Marines), but vs. Oomies or Fisheads (Guard/Tau) the Slugga/Choppa combo works better for the Charge bonus. Hence the advice I'm giving is going to be more or less indirect.

If you have an X mob of Orks, you get 3X attacks on the charge. Vs. the first group, they hit 4+ (3+ if the Eldar in question are Guardians) but the targets get to attack first. Naturally, getting 2X attacks beforehand helps soften them up before they hit you first. Vs. the other two types, the melee attacks go first (well, simultaneous w/ Guard) but hit on 3+, which is why the 4X melee on the charge is that more accurate and krumpy. Hurhurhur.

As for Taktiks, I'm actually working on that for The-Waaagh, and should have a comprehensive tactica up by the end of this week assuming no external complications.

ok... First of all, i know your not allowed to post rules/stats, i was just wondering which weapons are good for what, if they have large number of shots, low ap, etc. Thanks for the info. on shoota boy / slugga boy effectiveness and i'll be waiting for that tactica Also, if i may pose another question, are there ways to minimize costs by, dare i say it, elite armes of orks, and so more expensive orks (points wise) ? And of course could that be effective or way to fragile to even think about it?

The new Ork Codex makes it so that if you choose certain types of units as HQs, that you can take 1 of a certain unit type as an HQ, so if you took 2 Warbosses, you could take 2 units of Nobs/Meganobz as troops, thus allowing one to play a "Deffwing" army of Orks, or a Dreadmob, or a Biker-heavy army. The options are quite nice to say the least.

As for the Tactica, I'm writing it in the style of a Warboss passing on his mantle to his second-in-command with an Imperial Translation to summarize it.

Oh ok, is there a hq choice that allows loota's into troops? or any other plastic non troop choices that can be used as troops when using a certain hq? Nice idea with the tactica, i look forward to it.

The three units that can be made into troops (remember, each HQ lets ONE such unit count for troops, exception being Bikes) with the right units are Nobs/Meganobs, a Deff Dread, or Warbikes. Sorry man, but 3 squads of Lootas will have to suffice for you. :P

hmmm, ok. i might get the codex very soon, maybe the weekend. Could you be so kind as to to give me an example of a 750 or 1000 point ork army list that includes 10 lootas, 2 squads of 20 shoota boyz and a hq with nob retinue in a trukk for me, just to give me an idea of how many models i'd probably be Fielding?

What would you say is the cheapest/best tankbusting unit/vehicle for orks in small games 0f 1000 odd points?
