Default Thinking of starting an ork army...

I relly like the feel and look of the orks but I dont know much about how they play. If u guys could give me some upsides and downsides of an ork army and maybe some examples of basic tactics it would be really helpful.

Thanks for any replies!

The two major divisions are Footsloggers (large hoard armies) and Speed Freaks (fast vehicle driven armies). Since the typical ork is actually as good as or better than most 40K armies Assault specialists choices, it's clearly in the Ork players best interest to get his /her models into close combat.

The two theories use different basic approaches. Footsloggers are "Big, Dumb and Slow". Speed Freaks armies are "Small, Dumb and Fast".

Personally I've always leaned towards Footsloggers. As a footslogger player I understand that a real shooty unit can tear apart even a 30 Ork Mob in two turns. The trick is to give them multiple targets of 30 Ork Mobz. When something gets through, then it's my turn at giving them (the opponent's models) some payback.

Speed Freaks are also a good choice.

Many players also run Hybrid army lists of large mobz and fast vehicles in various combinations.

There are others choices as well. The themed army list of almost all bikes or a large number of Battlewagons.

Read through the threads. Be aware that a new Ork Codex is scheduled for release sometime in early January of twenty oh eight. Read the threads about new Codex rumours as well.

Best Regards,

This is a fair range of descent descriptions to how Orks work. However as far as racial characteristics are concerned you need to know Orks are unreliable, unpredictable and wild. If you want power and anarchy get ORKS!
