Default Suffering from NAS... Again

Well, as some of you may already know I am a long time sufferer of NAS that horrible mental disease. And I am afaird to say I've had yet another re-lapse into New Army Syndrome.

This time its orks!
I mainly want to do this army for the conversion options, and I don't want many vehicles. More just footsloggers, but well modeled footsloggers looking to put out a beating! I think I'll start with 400 points and see if I want to go further from there. What units would you suggest I take? Preferably all plastic, and with lots of cool conversion options. Some of those wacky Ork units are a great option too.

Thanks in advance, your resident NAS victim, Aun Le'Keth

Welcome to the green tide!

If you want an all-plastic army, look no further. The basic Boyz kit is the most versatile one there is, and you can also utilise the WHFB Warboss and Black Orc kits for more plasticy goodness.

In a 400 point army a Warboss isn't allowed, so take a Big Mek if you absolutely must have an HQ choice. It might be a better idea not to though. Without the HQ clogging up points, you can easily fit in 2 mobs of Boyz with some points left over for 'Ard stuff. I'd go for something like:

-1 big mob (16 to 20-strong) of basic Boyz, either Sluggaz or Shootaz, your choice
-1 small mob (7 to 10-strong) of specialist Boyz, such as Tankbustaz, Burnaz or 'Ardboyz
-A Killa Kan or a Warbuggy, just to give your opponent something to worry about.

Specialist Boyz can all be made easily with some imaginative conversion using the Boyz box. If you want some tips on how to do this, PM me.

Have fun bashin' 'eadz!

Thanks, I was wondering about those stick bombas... Any good? Cause I think I could do some interesting conversions with them. And I think I'll go for shootas over sluggas in the larger squad. Also I won't be buying anything till the new kits come out.

Your making a mistake here. Due to the lack of accuracy with Orks, you'd be better off going to sluggas.

Also, you can make variations to your list by utilizing the Ork Klan rules. Heres the link: http://uk.games-workshop.com/orks/"]Ork Klans[/url] (*Nudge* KoS are the best)

Also remember to read all of the stickied posts up here in the Ork Board. There's some really useful stuff there.

Now on to the good stuff. If you want to make a Combat Patrol, remember that our strength is in our numbers. Feel free to go with specialize stuff like stick bombaz but I'd usually would bulk out the list with Mobs of sluggas or shootas. Although specilized mobs can be fun and wreak havoc among your enemies forces, Sluggas will get you through thick and thin in Combat Patrols. Here's what I'd suggest for a freeboota army:

15 Slugga Boys- 171
-Nob
--Power Klaw

10 Shoota Boys- 128
-3 Big Shoota
-Nob
--Big Shoota

2 Wartrakks-104
-TL Rokket Launchers
-Armor Plates
-Turbo Boosta
-Grot Riggers

This comes out to be 403 Points and now you've got yourself a well balanced force. The Slugga Boys serve as your assault, your Shootas as your fire base and the Rokketbuggies as anti-tank.

Hope I've helped and most importantly, welcome to the bestest army eva created!

I must disagree with you on this one, Faith. As the current Codex stands, it's true that Slugga & Choppaz are superior to Shootaz as they can shoot and charge and have the Armour-lowering power, but in the new Codex Shootaz will become Assault 2 weapons (think Eldar Avenger SCs). On the flip side, Choppas no longer lower Armour Save so Shootaz should be the weapon of choice for footslogging Boyz with greater range and more shots. While Orks can't aim the laws of probability are on our side!

I strongly recommend AVOIDING the Klan rules at this point. Klanz will become a thing of the past with the new Codex, and I'm sure Aun LeKeth here doesn't want to invest heaps of time and money in an army that'll become invalidated in 3 months or so...

To answer your question: Unfortunately, Stikk Bommaz are next to useless currently and are likely to vanish without a trace come the new Codex in January. If you want to convert some anyway, it's best to use them as Slugga Boyz or Kommandos just to save yourself a headache.

Question about Boyz; will the new box contain the same amount of models? If not will the price change? What are the main differences in models?

The models are essentially the same - the sprue's been revised and now comes with almost twice as many gubbinz, a plastic Big Shoota and Rokkit Launcha, and a plastic Nob. Also, Shootaz are now pre-attached to the arms to save you some cutting and gluing.

At the moment, nobody's sure how many there will be in a box... either they'll come in a box of 20 and cost the same as the current Boyz box, or they'll come in 10 and cost less.

Thats the good thing about opinions: We both can have them.

Aun LeKeth, whip up an army list and I'm sure there will be lots of people who will give you more advice. We'll be able to judge you and your list better then.

Good Luck

The one good thing about being in this hobby a long time is that you learn how to make army lists without ever touching the relevant codex. :P

400 Point Ork Warband, name undecided.
Shoota Boyz Mob
11 Orks, 3 Big Shootas, Nob
135 points

Shoota Boyz Mob
10 Orks, 3 Big Shootas, Nob
126 points

10 Kommandos, 3 Big Shoota, 1 Nob
135

Thats with the current army list. With the new one I think I could fit in a lot more boyz.
