Default How on earth do big gunz work??

Something that has been bugging me for the last week - how on earth do the big gunz work?? The ins and outs of everything was thought.... Some things ive thought of:
  • Can they move and fire? I know it sounds kinda silly, but look at the entry in your 'dex - the special rules bit. It says "count as vehcicle with armour 10" and since vehicles can move and fire with heavy weapons - does this carry over to the big gun?
  • Who fires the gun? Kinda silly again? But who actually fires the weapon? it says nothing about the grotz being needed to fire the weapon (Like the eldar grav platforms) and seeing as the gun can be hit independantly, as well as the possiblity of the thing being a vehicle, leads me to believe that the gun is a seperate entity and is allowed to fire on it's own free will.
  • Zzap guns and strength? Do you roll once for the entire unit? Or do you roll per gun?
  • How are big gunz effected in assault? Are you permitted to allocate hits to the gunz themselves instead of the grots?

Just some stuff to muse over - I haven't proof read anything with the rules book. And I think my mind is turning to mush.

Anyways - wreck my argument at will.

I don't have my codex or rulebook handy so I'll only answer what I can remember.

The guns are considered heavy weapons and therefore cannot move and shoot.

The guns are fired by the Grots, that much I know. You have to have a crew of 2 Grots taken with the gun, they just come with it, but I don't recall anywhere that it says you need 2 Grots to gun it. My point being, if you lost a Grot and only had 1 left on the gun, not sure how that works.

I remember reading somewhere that Big Gunz are treated as 'artillery' under 4th Edition rules, so (1) they can't move and shoot; (2) You need at least 1 crewman to man each gun you have in the battery, e.g. if you had 2 crew and 3 guns, 1 gun would not be able to fire; (3) Don't know about the Zzap guns, personally I've always rolled separately just because it would make sense, what with the unpredictability of Zzap guns; (4) Yes, I believe you would be allowed to allocate hits in assault, and anyone attacking a gun would allocate hits as though assaulting an AV10 vehicle... Though you really shouldn't EVER find your Big Gunz stuck in close combat.

Technically I think it's another Grot firing the gun, so if you're taking Kannonz, there shouldn't be anything stopping you from using Ammo Runts on krak shells.

hmmm... that does raise another issue - how do ammo runtz work in kannon batteries??

Don't you roll for the strength of Zzap Guns, but if you roll 12 they blow up and the grots take damage

Ammo Runts only allow rerolls for the model that buys it, therefore only the slaver or the mek that buys the runt is allowed to use it.

Not quite true. The ammo run can only be bought by the Slaver or Mek but the Codex states that "any" model in base to base with an ammo runt gets a reroll. It doesn't state only the purchaser of the ammo runt.

which also raises the additional question of what the Ammo runts should be in base to bse with.

Hell, how do they effect Zzap guns and the scatter dices?
