Default new army

i was wondering which army to collect as a second one, and thought orks might be a fun change (i have guard), i managed to make this 500 pts starter army, is it any good?

Warboss: slugga, choppa, eavy armour, tankbusta bombs, frag stick.* 75 pts

15 slugga boyz:* *135 pts

15 shoota boyz:* *120 pts

5 tankbustas:* * 55 pts

looted hellhound:* * 115 pts

comes to exactly 500 points, is it capable of winning anything? if not what would be a better force. thanks, matt

Good starter list

Will probably get you places. Really the only thing you should think of changing is the looted vehicle. Orks can have som many cooool heavy choices, so why this one?
I think maybe some gun batteries would be better? Or a battlewagon, which is the über killer tank of the ork army, and it can transport your first mob and the warboss faster to battle. And you can customize it to be effective against anything. And hell, 20 boys transport, thats alot!!

Just my recommendation... ;D

I'd ditch the Hellhound for some Eavy weapons. 3 Rokkits for the Tankbustas, 21 points. Three Big Shootas for the Shoota Boyz - 24 more points. A pair of Burnas for the Slugga Boyz - 12 points. This will still leave enough points for a Killa Kan.

Best,

An alternate method is to ditch the Tankbustas altogether and give your Warboss a Power Klaw instead of the Slugga (keep the Choppa in case you want to hit first in CC). That should free up enough points to expand your mob to 20 each, and pop 3 Big Shootas into the Shoota Boyz and 3 Rokkits into the Slugga Boyz. I'd drop the hellhound as well and grab either a couple of Skorcha buggies and/or add a sprinkling of PK-toting Nobs to your core force.

The only reason I say drop the Tankbustas is that 5 Orks have basically ZERO staying power. A single turn of max range shooting from a full (10) Tactical Marine squad can eliminate them without too much hassle.

Not a bad starter list at all!

Best,

I think that is better advice than elvis. except adding another tank busta or two.

Depends on personal playing style, and what opponents you're going to face. Since I'm still painting up my current iteration of my army, I could easily find that my personal preferences, list-wise, are garbage on the tabletop versus local opponents. This coming Saturday will tell all! ;D

I will indeed...this is a big moment for me. Even though I haven't played a full-on game in a long, long time I've played a few "scrimmages" and generally kept up with the hobby off and on, even during the 5-year break. I've even gone so far as to move my painting station into my bedroom and out of the kitchen! ;D

Being a bachelor has it's advantages some time (but far more disadvantages, lol).

thanks for the advice everyone, kans sound good* >, the main reason for the hellhound was just that i liked the model, but if its not effective then theres no point. Also i have to agree that 5 orks wont last very long at all. If i was to use a gun battery what would you use in small battles, there doesnt seem much point in zzap guns, so kannons? Then on the other hand the battlewagon, or more dakka for the mobs....so...many...choices.... Now ivve got an excuse to buy one of everything

A tip man, If your going with that list, your tankbustas are a waste, as it has been said they will not stay there long, Warboss looks good, Slugga Boys could do with a nob with a power Claw and big shoota for more firepower plus 3 burnas > and the yer Shoota Boyz, need..three..big..shootas!!!

Drop the Hellhound- spend the 115pts on either a Dread, 2 kans or more boyz, with 2 mobs O' twenty expect to outnumber 2:1/3:1 in these small games!
