Default Feral Orks: a real army or just for fun?


I recently started a small Feral Orks force and have played one game against a friend's Black Templars. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I had my rear end handed to me on a silver platter. But the game was supremely good fun, one of the highlights being my boar-powered trukk ramming and destryoing his my friend's command rhino.
I chose Feral Orks for two reasons: something different and crazy conversion opportunities. Apart from my grots, most of my models are converted, my favorites being my Madboyz, Trukk and Lobbas (pics to follow...).

What I want to know is how many other Ork players walk on the Wild side and whether they field there Feral Orks to win, or just to have fun. Comments?

If I remember correctly Waargh was rather successful with his Feral army - He took hordes of Madboyz, Pigdokks and the occasional Hunta squad and just simply swamped the board with models - I mean look at the stats for the a Madboy! They are only 1 point more than an individual guardsman and they are as good, if not better than, a skarboy. Simple!

I just dabbled with the snakes bites in a 1100pt game. I had 2 hunta squads and 2 mad boy squads within the list. THe madboyz make for a fun game especially when they get disturbed but I did not care for the fact that they are WS 3 and cannot mob up with other types of Orks. THe huntas can shoot and how. My overall impression was that if you take a lot of madboyz don;t rely on them getting to where you need to go and having a higher strength is great but only if you can score a hit.

I believe Squig use to play feral and I believe they are too effective (unbalanced) since they are no longer a viable choice in GW tournaments.

I'm planning to start up a small force of ferals myself ;D........... once I finish my SM and my Tau, but if you're looking for any tips on playing talk to waargh

1. Drop the wyrdboy stick since the chances of you rolling an 11 or a 12 are slim to none. I field a wyrdboy in 8 games now and use one power a turn and have yet to roll either.
2. In order to use the brutes you must field a squad of 10 or more brutes, an elite choice, then you can detach 2-5 of them to mind the wyrdboy. These brutes cannot have any upgraded weapons and cannot be a Brute Nob.
3. Take the points from droppiing the wrydboy stick and buy your pigdok some weapons to fight with since he comes with nothing.
4. The boarboy nob is one hell of an expensive upgrade.
5. if you drop the boarboy nob you could drop the points into beefing up the numbers into your junka squad.

Hmm ok i'll drop the stick and the brutes, but the Junkas have to be 8 + a nob, as i plan to hav my warboss ride with them.

Yeah the boarboys are expensive i suppose, but i wanted something that can keep up with the junkas (sort of), something else fast moving. Hmm another junka squad maybe, or just take another squad of madboyz or huntas.

I'll get some pics up soon of various nobs n vehicles, I promise...

The boarboyz are great its just that the nob is so pricey for them you might want to think about dropping the NOB...if you feel confortable with the nob in the boarboyz then keep him too. The great thing with the boarboyz is that they can just keep up with the junka, lagging slightly behind if you get a bad fleet of foot, but are able to charge past the junkas at almost any point. I would keep the boars.
