Before I had actually decided on a color scheme, I got all lathered up and went ahead and primed two of the old Mega-Armored Warbosses in black. The one I'm currently working on has only a plasma gun, while the other has a power fist and a "bolta" (shoota).
Before I realized what I'd done, I decided to use a predominantly yellow paint scheme, being a Bad Moon and all. The grey I use most often, Delta Ceramcoat's "Quaker Grey", is extremely opaque and covers black perfectly in one coat (occasionally a second coat is necessary if I water it down any, which I did). Painting straight Sunburst Yellow over the grey seemed the way to go, which I then popped with a straight wash of Brown Ink. It became quite obvious to me at this point that it was not going to cut it. Breaking from the style I have been using since my re-entry into 40K, I decided to do a little blending. So, the photos below show model after having been painted and highlighted back up from an orange-brown all the way up to Bad Moon Yellow on some of the highest points. One kneecap will be left much like it is, with the yellow border surrounding a black kneepad (the skulls on both will be painted up realistically). The other kneecap (the model's left kneecap) will have the border left black with the interior painted up yellow, which will be a task since I don't remember the exact mixes I used painting the rest of the model. : I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the armored feet yet.I know I'm a long way from painting like NightSerpent or Cyril Abati (:P) but I don't think I did too bad for the first time I've worked on blending anything in at least five years if not longer. Since he's an old mega-armor model I figure I can use him as either a "standard" Ork nob or an 'Eavy Armored Nob. Even I draw the line at trying to use old mega-armor models as mega-armor in the new edition - it just doesn't look right. I need help choosing colors to paint the plasma gun (it'll be rep'd as a Flash Gitz Big Shoota)! Any and all feedback and criticism will help and are welcome. Here's the views of each quarter: ![]()

Sweet, I love the old 'Ork in Power Armour' models. Part 80's pulp sci fi alien, part pro Footballer.
I would paint the gun black with red trim, and a few bits of gunmetal here and there. The nozzle/muzzle part of the gun would be red, maybe going from red at the widest part through orange to yellow around the rim at the barrel-end. I think the painting looks very good. Of course, even bad paint jobs don't look nearly so bad on Orks, seeing as it would have been the Orks who painted their armour in the first place, and they aren't known for their Di Vinci-like delicacy with a paintbrush. But I'd say that's a good job you've done there.

Very good and a fine job. I always seem to have trouble with yellow, tough color to get right. Excellent work Commissar!
Best,

Thanks, guys, I appreciate it. After reading a bit of feedback on "Phase 1", I decided I couldn't wait and had to proceed to Phase B.
So, here's what it looks like now: ![]() ![]() Here's the face of the second model: ![]() I'm happy with how the faces turned out, definitely I'm not real keen on how the boots and the highlighted kneepad came out. They'll most likely be blacked in and repainted. Even though it's awfully bright, I still like the spiked shoulderpad. Didn't really know to properly highlight spikes, though. :/ I should finish the yellow one tomorrow, and hopefully get it based, too. I'm actually moving at a pretty good pace (for me) this week!

LMAO. Thank you, Akuma! I'm sure your paintjobs are much better than you say they are. By the same token, I've already put in at least 4-5 hours on that model, including priming. That's one model and I have ~100 to go. Only character models are going to be painted with blending, I fear, since it will take me 6 - 8 years to field an army otherwise. :

I think I'm going to adopt a more-or-less uniform color scheme for most of the Boyz. Black or brown shirts/trousers with yellow designs (checks, dags, what have you) on the black portion. That should go smoothly and easily enough and not take me 8+ hours like this little fella above. :
![]() But I do have at least one more model I have to paint just like this one, and I've got to touch up and finish this one as well. I haven't even primed my Warboss yet. :/ I have mucho, mucho work to do.

What are those models from? They look similar to an ork (made by Reaper I think) that I bought off Ebay to scrounge parts for cyborks (he came with a couple of cool special arms).

These are Rogue Trader-era "Space Ork Warbosses in Power Armor." I could rep them 100% by giving them 'Eavy Armor and a Bionik Bonce, but what's the point? :P If Reaper makes good Space Orc models, I'll have to take a look. I'm all for using non-GW models (though I rarely do), especially if they afford good conversion opportunities.
