Default 1500pts League list - Need some help in fine-tuning it.

I am going to play a league game in another store, and from what I can figure out, I will be facing Nids, Chaos Daemons, Chaos Marines (Abbadon and Oblits could be the order of the day, and some LR spam), Loyalist Marines (of almost every kind, and I am expecting LR and Assault termie spam), IG (Chimeara spam and some large blob of infantry), and Orks (most likely of the footslogging kind). Right now I am trying to make a list that can try to tackle all of these armies to the best of my abilities, and so far I am kinda stuck. I am not used to the idea of playing 1500 pts games, which adds to the challenge.

So far what I have got running for the list is as follow

HQ
1. Warboss
Power Klaw
eavy armour
cybork body
attack squig

Total pts: 115 pts

2. Big Mek
Kustom Force Field

total pts: 85 pts

Elites
1. Lootas
10x deffguns

total pts: 150 pts

2. Kommandos
1 x Nob with power klaw and bosspole
7 x Kommandos

total pts: 120 pts

3. Burnas
7 x Burnas

total: 105 pts

Troops
1. Slugga boyz
1 x Nob with power klaw, and bosspole
18 x Boyz with slugga/choppas

total pts: 154 pts

2. Trukk Boyz
1 x Nob with power klaw and bosspole
9 x boyz with slugga/choppas

Trukk with Reinforced Ram, Red Paint Job and big shoota

total pts: 140 pts

3.Trukk Boyz
1 x Nob with power klaw and bosspole
9 x boyz with slugga/choppas

Trukk with Reinforced Ram, Red Paint Job and big shoota

total pts: 140 pts

4.Trukk Boyz
1 x Nob with power klaw and bosspole
9 x boyz with slugga/choppas

Trukk with Reinforced Ram, Red Paint Job and big shoota

total pts: 140 pts

Heavy Support
1. Looted Wagon
Red Paint Job
1 x Big Shoota
Reinforced Ram

total pts: 50 pts

2. Battlewagon
1 x big shoota
Deffrolla
Red Paint Job

total: 120 pts

As of this moment, the point cost for the entire list is 1269 pts (231 pts to go), and I need help in a few things;

1)What should I put into the list?

2)Should I replace some units in my army with other units?

Help would be appreciated, as well as some comment and criticisms in regards to the list as of this moment.

I would definitely make the squads of boys in trukks 12 man, they at least can take a wound or two before stopping being fearless. Also ups the limit for taking a moral test, helping with pinning from exploding trukks.

Looted wagon with boomgun, might be a good move, really helpful for taking out anything really.

Fair enough but I was trying to save up on the points to max on other things in the army, hence the smaller squad numbering.

Looted wagons are nice, but so far Killa Kans are one of the best options I have due to the fact that they can bust land raiders and also dish out anti-infantry fire like mad.

But even if I decided to max up on the boyz and also take the Killa Kans, I still have 50 pts. Any idea Will?

I agree on the Trukk Boyz, get them to 12! With them already being a small unit you want every body in there you can get.

I assume the Looted Wagon is for Burnas and the BW for the Slugga Boyz? I personally put armor plates on my 12" moving vehicles like those. They move slow compared to Trukks and being able to keep moving is required.

Right now the list would be in rough shape if you went against anyone fully mechanized. Your only ranged AV is Lootas and they'll have a rough time with anything over AV12. Look into getting some Buggies, Deffkoptas, Tankbustas, something to give you some range AV support. I run lists similar to yours and have been putting in a lot more ranged AV support and it's been working out very well. I'm finding that Buggies/Trakks work out well and use them over Deffkoptas because they're harder to destroy.

I'd also like to see burnas in with the Kommandos. It's a small unit and fragile so you need to hit the enemy hard when you get there and burnas will do that.

See what you have for points left after you look into the suggestions and evaluate from there.

Yeah, I need some ranged anti-vehicle firepower, and my eye is on the tankbustas but now that you mentioned it, I never really thought of buggies.

You reckon I should take out the kommandos to make room for the Tankbustas, or should I use buggies insteads?

Personally, I'd use Buggies and Tankbustas and you'd have to remove Kommandos to pull that off. The thing is you can't rely on one unit. With only one unit to really threaten their armor they will remove it quickly. I've been running Wartrakks and Tankbustas together for the past month and it's worked out really well. I keep my Wartrakks in the front with my Trukks and run the Tankbustas in a Looted Wagon behind all that. People will shoot at the Wartrakks just because they're closer and shielding my Trukks and that leaves my Tankbustas safe to shoot from their wagon.

If you do that, use Buggies and Tankbustas, then that leaves your Lootas to shoot at infantry, what they do best. You can blow open transports with the Buggies and Tankbustas and then use the Lootas to gun down the guys in it.

Yeah, sounds more like my style. Kommandos are there just because I need to counter hidden units but I doubt I will find any truly static unit that the squad can take down by themselves.

But if I do so, I would have 50 pts to spend. Any ideas that would help with this list if I would put in the buggies and tankbustas?

Is that 50pts before you put wargear on the Tankbusta's Looted Wagon or after? I'd give it at least armor plates so the Tankbustas can keep shooting if you get a stunned result. Of course you want a gun on it too in case you get a weapon destroyed result.

Anyway, about all you can do with the left over points is grab a unit of Grots. I routinely run a unit of 10-18 Grots and reserve them. When they come in they head for an objective and sit. Usually they get ignored because I have so many fast vehicles in someone's face that they have to deal with that. They can also be useful to put around your Lootas for protection. That way if someone wants to charge your Lootas they have to go through the Grots first and then next turn you just shoot them with the Lootas.

OH yeah....the Looted wagon for the Tankbustas. shtlk. Now I exceeded by over 50+ points. I do not think I got enough points to put in Armour plates for the looted wagons. :sadnshocked: Thinking about it should I not bother with the battlewagon and the 18-boyz squad and instead take smaller squads in trukks? Or make the Loota squad smaller?

About the grots, you are helping me with a lot of options that I never really think about. Now instead of one non-scoring unit sitting on my objective, I got two units, one of which is scoring.

As you havent edited or posted a new list it makes it difficult for me to know what exactly you are settled on taking and what's left to improve, apart from a few words here and there in the posts...but i shall do my best.

Going with the original list, you could take out the burna boys and replace them with tankbustas for the same price. Add in another 3 or so and your looted wagon will be pumping out 10 krak missiles a turn - pretty fearsome.

Now you have around 220 points left, and like Thor suggested AT is the way to go. In a league list especially, as i would expect alot of mech lists. Buy 3 warbuggies with rokkits and use them to give cover saves to trukks and for AT. At a little over 100 points they will most-times make their worth as twin linked weapons in an ork army mean that we may actually hit!

With the remaining points i would myself go with a squad of 10 grots like thor said, then bump up the trukk mobs to max size. Add 2 burnas to your kommando squad and add another 2 models in the squad too. If they come on near a vehicle they will most likely pop it - with 10 models, one with power klaw. Unless it is something like a land raider or a dreadnought.

Hope this helps

Lord Zambia
