Hi, just bought the Ork army book and a warboss and thought I'd make a list to work towards...

HQ:
Warboss
Choppa
Shoota
Bosspole
Iron gob

Troops:
20 Slugga boyz
2 Burnas
Nob with power klaw/choppa

20 Shoota boyz
3 Rokkit launchas
Nob with big horns and kombi rokkit launcha

Total: 500 points

Warboss: I know that most people take a power klaw on him, but as I don't have one yet I'll have to make do with what I have. I'll probably get a power klaw for him sometime in the future though. Same goes for shoota, I'm just using what I have.

Sluggas: Just a "run at 'em and beat 'em up!" type unit, can't think of much I could add really. I'll put the warboss in here.

Shootas: Got to this point in the list, and realised I have no anti-tank so..there it is! They should also give Marines something to think about.

Well there we go..any suggestions and improvements before I buy more of the models would be great!

Looks good to me. I really don't have anything to add since you're using what you have, I'm in the same boat but not as small of an army. It appears you have a good core army though so you can expand it in any direction you want easily.

Very solid list, pretty much the basic 500 point list for orks. Now, this IS just my opinion, you definately don't have to take it, but try out 2 squads of sluggas, it can really be brutal, it will outnumber most, and nothing more satisfying than 40 boyz in cc, ah, that priceless look on their face as i pick up the dice.......

Thanks for the replies so far..I'm pretty much aiming for a simple list I can expand anywhere, as I know Orks are being re-released before long, so I'm only going to buy units which I like the models for since there will be lots of new ones before too long.

It's been suggested elsewhere that I take away the Iron gob and bosspole on the Warboss and give him 'eavy armour instead which seemed a fairly good idea to me..it looks like Orks are pretty hard to break anyway!

On taking two squads of sluggas, It's a good idea but I just like shootas too much..I think just they look better than sluggas to be honest.

If it were me, I'd put the bosspole on the Shoota Nob, not your Warboss. I assume your boss is going to get stuck in with the Sluggas, right? If so then having the bosspole on your frontlines does you no good where having it on the unit that hangs back, your Shootas, is the better choice.

Yes, this is a pretty solid 500 force. You can be pretty sure you'll always have the number advantage, unless you face a grot horde (i've seen 120 grots in a 500 pt army - the guy was nuts) or a guy with a Conscripts fetish.

You can be pretty sure that you won't face any vehicles in numbers that the rokkits can't handle. A necron force could prove tough though, beware.

Yes, really be careful of the 'crons. That rapid fire stuff is absolutely brutal! It can easily wipe out a squad in one turn......beware.
