I'll be facing Dark Angles so tried to cater my list as much as I can towards them, by that I mean what I have for models. Also this list is almost every model I have so unfortunately it can't change dramatically, but I am looking for feedback and suggestions. Knowing my friend as I do, my guess is he'll run something like:
1 Assault squad lead by his Chaplin 2 squads of Tact Marines 1 Devastator squad 1 Dreadnought (forget what variety) 1 Whirlwind (he loves using this against me) 1-2 squds of Termies That's pretty typical of him, though he may surprise me and change it up some. Which leads me to my list: HQ Warboss (109) Mega Armour (Power Claw) (Shoota), Big Horns, Cybork Body Big Mek (65) Choppa, Kustom Force Field, Mekboy Tools Grot Oiler x 3 Elites Stormboyz (170) Stormboy Nob - Choppa, Power Claw, Big Horns, Frag Stikkbombz Stormboy x 7 - Frag Stikkbombz, Choppa, Slugga Troops Tankbustas (101) Tankbusta Boy Nob - Choppa, Rokkit Launcha, Frag Stikkbombz, Iron Gob, Tankbusta bombz Tankbusta Boy x 3 - Rokkit Launcha, Frag Stikkbombz, Tankbusta bombz Tankbusta Boy - Close combat weapon, Slugga, Frag Stikkbombz, Tankbusta bombz Shoota Boyz (179) Shoota Boy Nob - Big Shoota, Choppa, Big Horns, Bosspole Shoota Boy x 3 - Big Shoota Shoota Boy x 11 - Shoota Slugga Boyz (237) Slugga Boy Nob - Choppa, Power Claw, Iron Gob Slugga Boy x 3 - Rokkit Launcha Slugga Boy x 16 - Choppa, Slugga Gretchin mob (88) Gretchin x 20 - Grot Blasta Slaver - Big Shoota, Choppa Squighound Burna Boyz (95) Burna Mekboy - Choppa, Kustom Force Field, Mekboy's Tools Burna Boy x 3 - Burna Burna Boy x 2 - Choppa, Slugga Fast Attack Warbuggy/Wartrak Squadron (100) Wartrak - Twin-linked big shoota, Armour plates, Grot Riggers Wartrak - Twin-linked rokkit launcha, Armour plates, Grot Riggers Trukk Boyz (143) Trukk Boy Nob - Choppa, Slugga Trukk Boy - Burna Trukk Boy x 7 - Choppa, Slugga Wartrukk - Rokkit Launcha, Armour plates, Grot Riggers, Red Paint Job Heavy Support Big Gunz Battery (113) Lobba x 3 Mekboy - Burna, Choppa, Mekboy's Tools Killer Kan (50) Dreadnought close combat weapon, Rokkit Launcha, Armour plates Killer Kan (50) Dreadnought close combat weapon, Big Shoota, Armour plates A few things to note regarding what I have for models. The Trakks have those weapons since that's all I have for them. The Kans the same as the Trakks in regards to weapons. I try and WYSIWYG as much as possible to make life easier for both of us. The Boss will ride in the Trukk and the Trakks along with it. Might be worth me making another spot open in the Trukk and tossing in my Big Mek there...hmm. The Tankbustas will most likely follow the Fast Attack to get cover. The Kans will lead the core force followed by the Burna Boyz to get the KFF over them, then Grots behind that. Then of course Sluggas & Shootas beyond that. The Stormboyz I tend to let hang until I can find a good spot to put them seeing as how they're a small unit. The Lobbas as mostly to use points, again I'm fielding most of my models to make points, but I figure as a battery I may get a few kills and at least become a distraction. |

Solid hybrid list you got there Thor.
Ahhh I hate to say it but you forgot your Big Meks Tools... I'm not a huge fan of armour plates 1 in 6 that they actually work. With that said I would drop all the armour plates and give your Trukk boy Nob a PK. Now if you ditch the Choppa you can buy your Big Mek his tools but if you drop the slugga you will be short still and the best way to fix that would be to drop a gretchin but that leaves you with 1 pt to spare. Just wondering where is your Big Mek going to be if he doesn;t squeeze into the trukk. |

I like the list a lot, Thor. It is actually a lot like mine, almost identical. I end up fielding all of my models to make points and you've the same problem. Very interesting.
I can't spot many flaws in the list, to tell you the truth. I think you ought to fare well against your buddies Beakies. Best of luck, -Grandpa Ducky |

Guess we need to buy more Orks, Ducky!
I don't do poorly against him, most of my games have been against him, I've just haven't won yet...did tie once though. His Whirlwind can cause havoc for me but it's really hit or miss and hasn't swayed a game in his favor yet really. Helped him yes, but the Whirlwind hasn't won it for him. He has yet to field his Termies against me but almost positive he will. Usually what kicks my ass is his Assault squad with the Chappy. Those guys are damn nasty and I've had this bad habit in the past of splitting my forces too early so he'd just exploit that with the Assault squad. This time I'm making sure the mob stays together so he can't pick off units with them. |

Overall, I like the list. As you know I've fielded very similar ones to good effect
It’s a good all-comers list and will do well against the beakies.A few things to think about: -The oilers count towards transport capacity so you'll need four slots to fit the Big Mek on a trukk. -If things go well, the mek guarding the lobbas will not see action. If the lobbas are attacked he's unlikely to be much help (I2 means you're likely to lose six grots and the mek before even striking back against marines.) -Lobbas are fun, and if you get lucky they are very effective. However, you'll be facing small squads that are well spread out so there's a very real possibility they won't do you any good. And IF you hit a marine you only have 2/9 chance of killing him. -The warboss is IC and is treated like a separate unit in combat. If you decide to go with his PK he has to survive the marine onslaught first. -Warboss plus 9 trukk boys may not be enough numbers against a marine squad of five or more. If you lose boyz on the way in you'll be hard pressed to win a combat. If he's smart he'll preempt or counter-assault with with Foamy and the Jumpettes. I'm pretty sure he's finished painting the full squad so he'll be eager to field it at full strength (10 plus chappy.) I'm sure you plan to support them with you storm boyz but that still only brings you to 18 against 11 and those odds aren't as good as they sound. If I were you I’d consider doing some of the following: -Use those mad green skillz you’ve been building and make a few more rokkit launchas for the kan and trakk. They’re cheaper then big shootas and against marines are actually more effective. Even with orky BS and only one shot per turn the rokkit has better odds of inflicting a casualty (27.8%/turn) than the three big shoota shots (22.2%/turn.) Against vehicles you are much better off with rokkits. At 1500 points it’s very possible he’ll field a second dredd instead of termies. -Drop the lobbaz -Use your extra trukk to field another mob of trukk boyz. Take a nob, use the mek as a boy with burna, and leave room in the trukk for one more. If need be take a few boyz out of the slugga mob. -Drop the oilers and tools on the Big Mek and add him to the second trukk boyz mob. His KFF will protect the trukk and he’ll be in the trukk or in combat without any time to use the tools. If you have the points to keep the oilers give them to the burna squad mek instead. - Field your three attack squigs as wargear for the slugga nob. They will hit and wound no the same rolls as an ork and have an initiative of 4. For the price of two boyz you get three squigs for the same total base attacks. The squigs actually get one more attack on the charge than the two boyz, they just don’t have choppas. The also give you a one model bonus when calculating morale for being outnumbered. -Add three ammo runtz to the tankbusta nob. They help ensure you land those rokkits when it really counts. They are very likely to make the difference between dropping the dredd at first try or failing and having it fire back at you. -Keep the two trukks within six inches so they both benefit from the KFF. Put the trakks in front but also keep them within six inches of Big Mek. The marines will have to pass a leadership test to fire past the trakks at the more valuable trukks. -Try to move the stormboys so that they avoid being shot at but can arrive with the two trukk mobs to swamp a squad of marines. If you can’t find enough cover keep the behind the group of vehicles. -Don’t worry too much about shooting with the trakks and trukks until they’ve unloaded the boyz. If going 24 inches keeps you safer or gets you in combat sooner do so! Once the boyz are out the trukks and roam around picking things off. -Field your dredds in front of your footsloggers. Keep them both within the Burna mob’s KFF and use the mek to fix them if need be. With your boyz behind the kans the marines will need to pass a leadership test to fire past the kans, and the kans block LOS to at least some of your boyz. -Basically, split your army into a footslogging clump and a fast moving clump and try for the hammer and anvil strategy. |

All good advice, thanks. Time to tweak the list a bit and see what I can do. Good to see you posting here too. Didn't realize it was you until after I fully read the post and then went to check the name of the poster.

Ok, so made some changes going with the suggestions and what I can do considering models, without having to proxy too much.
HQ Warboss (103) Choppa, Slugga, 'Eavy Armour, Big Horns, Bionik Bonce, Cybork Body, Attack Squig Big Mek (49) Choppa, Kustom Force Field, Mekboy Tools Elites Stormboyz (170) Stormboy Nob - Choppa, Power Claw, Big Horns, Frag Stikkbombz Stormboy x 7 - Frag Stikkbombz, Choppa, Slugga Troops Tankbustas (113) Tankbusta Boy Nob - Choppa, Rokkit Launcha, Frag Stikkbombz, Iron Gob, Tankbusta bombz, Ammo Runt x 3 Tankbusta Boy x 3 - Rokkit Launcha, Frag Stikkbombz, Tankbusta bombz Tankbusta Boy - Close combat weapon, Slugga, Frag Stikkbombz, Tankbusta bombz Shoota Boyz (179) Shoota Boy Nob - Big Shoota, Choppa, Big Horns, Bosspole Shoota Boy x 3 - Big Shoota Shoota Boy x 11 - Shoota Slugga Boyz (231) Slugga Boy Nob - Choppa, Power Claw, Iron Gob, Attack Squig x 2 Slugga Boy x 3 - Rokkit Launcha Slugga Boy x 14 - Choppa, Slugga Gretchin mob (85) Gretchin x 19 - Grot Blasta Slaver - Big Shoota, Choppa, Squighound Burna Boyz (95) Burna Mekboy - Choppa, Kustom Force Field, Mekboy's Tools, Grot Oiler x 3 Burna Boy x 3 - Burna Burna Boy x 2 - Choppa, Slugga Fast Attack Warbuggy/Wartrak Squadron (100) Wartrak - Twin-linked rokkit launcha, Armour plates, Grot Riggers Wartrak - Twin-linked rokkit launcha, Armour plates, Grot Riggers Trukk Boyz (149) Trukk Boy Nob - Choppa, Slugga Trukk Boy - Burna Trukk Boy x 8 - Choppa, Slugga Wartrukk - Rokkit Launcha, Armour plates, Grot Riggers Trukk Boyz (113) Trukk Boy Nob - Choppa, Slugga Trukk Boy - Burna Trukk Boy x 4 - Choppa, Slugga Wartrukk - Rokkit Launcha, Armour plates, Grot Riggers Heavy Support Killer Kan (50) Dreadnought close combat weapon, Rokkit Launcha, Armour plates Killer Kan (50) Dreadnought close combat weapon, Rokkit Launcha, Armour plates Think that's right. Most notables changes are adding a 2nd trukk with 5 boyz, a Nob, which leaves room for my Boss w/attack squig and Big Mek. I gave my boss the squig for army fluff reasons, if you're wondering. The Boss is now without mega armor, opted for the tooled up non-mega armor boss. So I filled the 2nd Trukk to capacity since my two ICs are riding in another trukk, and that Nob did lose his PK for points. I figure with my Stormboyz Nob having a PK and tailing the Fast Attack units, he'll be my PK if needed. Oh, and all vehicles are now with rokkits. I did manage to give my Slugga Nob 2 attack squigs, points were tight. I only had to drop 2 boyz from here to get points for other things. The Burna Boyz Mek has the 3 oilers now, more appropriately placed then before, and the Lobba Battery is no more. Tankbusta Nob now has 3 ammo runts also. Think that covers the major changes to the list anyway. |
