Alright yah gitz, this is my current Ork army list to play in smaller games. I've tried to go for a balanced approach 'cause personally I dislike crafting lists specifically to counter the list of another army. So far, it's met with great success working with what I have available to me. I am ready to take this to 1,000 points now. What modifications do you think I should do to the current list (as I'll probably still use it occassionally) and what avenues should I take to bump this up to 1,000?
The strategy is rather simple. Trukks move out for surgical strikes, while the Sluggas and Shootas advance to take objectives. Slugga's will usually follow up behind the Trukkboyz to Mob Up with any slackers using the Bosspole. The Killa supports the foot sloggers by blocking line of sight and drawing fire turn 1 or 2. I'll probably happily switch it with a buggy equipped with... whatever. Thoughts and a feelings welcome. Headquarters Warboss (87 pts) - Choppa, Power Claw Troops 16 x Slugga Boyz (201 pts) - 3 x Burna's . . . . . Nob - Coppa, Powerclaw, Bosspole. 9 x Shoota Boyz (120 pts) - 3 x Big Shoota's. . . . . . Nob - Big Shoota. Fast Attack 9 x Trukk Boyz (148 pts) . . . . . Nob - Choppa, Powerclaw, Frag Stikkbombs. . . . . . Wartrukk 9 x Trukk Boyz (148 pts) . . . . . Nob - Choppa, Powerclaw, Frag Stikkbombs. . . . . . Wartrukk Heavy Assault Killa Kan (45 pts) - Big Shoota

I take it what you're fielding is what you have for actual models? I ask because, let me state I'm learning Orks, but I'd put your Shotta squad up to at least 12 but even better at 16 or so. I say that so they can pass their mob size check and stand less of a chance of falling back.
I'd also push both of those Trukk Boyz squads up to 10. I assume it's probably at 9 each because of the models you have available. With your Slugga Boyz, or Shottas, you should consider putting some rockets in there because right now you really don't have any ranged armor cracking means. I'd also pump up the numbers on that Slugga Boy squad if possible. Those are my suggestions anyway on your existing 750 list, which will bump you up a little towards 1,000 points but not enough by any means. I'd consider getting a Burna Boyz squad going with a Mek in there using a Kustom Force Field and field that behind your Kan for the extra protection and if all goes well you can get those Burna Boyz, and hopefully Kan, into assault relatively whole. For less points you could take a Big Mek with a KFF also, if points become an issue as you build the list. If you go the route with the Burna Boyz and Mek then I'd say keep those with your Kan and that would free up your Sluggas to move wherever they need to. So, I'd then consider some Grots to shield those Sluggas since they now lack the Kan for protection. So overall I'd just say beef up the numbers on each squad you got, get some rockets in there, and consider another squad(s) to field with the list. |

Yes, the main thing you lack is anti-tank fire. I second Thor in saying you should bump up the numbers in general, but you need some rokkits in there, so make sure the trukks and kan has them, as well as(if youve got the points) a rokkit buggy. These can be very useful as baiting unit and can be a 'one hit wonder' with both taking objectives and taking out other vehicles.

Models aren't that big of an issue, but I hear yah about the Shoota Boyz. They were really just on the receiving end of some spare points. I'll see what I can do about beefing up the squad... maybe with the points I regain from dumping the Killa Kan.
The Trukk Boyz are intentionally set at 9 models so I can get the Boss in either of them, as you can only have ten models in a wartrukk. I've begun to realize the need for some rokkits in this army, as Skimmers have been giving me some grief. Would buggies with twin-linked rokkits make for good tank-hunters? Or should I just use Tankbusta's as a more expensive solution? ((Edit: Just noted your post Waargh, I'll almost surely go the buggy-route now.)) Totally agree about the Burna Boyz. That'll defiently find it's way into my 1,000 pointer. As for grots, I've just converted a normal boy into a Slaver with a 'uge choppa, and made a attack squig and two squig hounds out of bitz and green stuff. As the grot models themselves are absurdly expensive ($$$ wise... can't wait for plastic grots...) I'll probably either give up on the idea of having any grots or proxy pennies as them until I manage to come up with a solution. Gonna be fielding two Killa Kans and maybe a Dreadnought, pretty much regardless. I've happily been converting up a Penitence Engine (Orkitence Engine, baby!!) into a Dread, so he and probably two Killa Kans are gonna be fielded, so I'd like to find a good way to manage them into this list. Perhaps ignoring Tankbusta's and Rokkit-Buggies and just giving them as many rokkits as possible while they close for assualt/shield the burna boyz?

If you want cheap grots they can be found. I don't think we're allowed to advertise sites, otherwise I'd toss you a direct link, but I got some grots from the fantasy game. I got 20 of them for about $4, can't beat it. Since they are fantasy they have bows instead of guns, but a little converting and they'll be all set for 40k. I also came across some, 2nd edition maybe, grots that I use as well and got them cheap.
One thing to consider with Ork vehicles and relying on them, IE: as your anti-tank, is that they will often fail you by being blown up. I also field some vehicles but beyond my Trukk Boyz, everything else is just distraction and it's a bonus if they score some kills before going boom. So, just make sure your squads have some rockkits on them and don't depend on your vehicles for it. Rockkits on your Kans isn't a bad idea either, again like the vehicles though don't rely on it for all your armor kills. Kans draw a lot of fire no matter what, that's why earlier I was saying put some Burna Boyz behind it with a Mek in the squad and a Kustom Force Field to give that cover save to the Kans and the Boyz. The Kans and the Burna Boyz are meant to get into assault to tear stuff up. |

If you want to, throw a PM my way. I'd love to hear about where to get those grots!
So, would it be worth it to drop my anti-infantry-ness in the form of the Big Shootas in favor of Rokkits? Considering a fight mostly Marines, Chaos, and Tau, that might be prudent... Thanks fer the help, so far.
