Default Phase Out Why is it needed?

Just a thought I had about phase out. If we already pay a premium for our troops why kick us with the stipulation that we lose if we only have 25% left? What do you guys think?

Well when the points eventually get adjusted for 5th edition, they won't be as expensive. Also, back in 3rd ed when the codex was released it was balanced. Necrons also have the toughest vehicle in the game, can get up after dying, destroy a landraider.... in 3rd edition. It was a balancing thing. In 5th when the dex gets released I can imagine most things ebcoming cheaper and phase out will be much more balanced. Check out the Necron rumours thread, may help give some insight.

Because it is about story and background dude. Not every rule is about the game.

Actually, more or less, it is. Fluffy Marines would be outrageous, but we can't have uber Space Marines or else they will win all the time. 4th edition codex (I don't know about 3rd and before. I didn't play then) really did try to stick to the fluff for the most part, but there were some instances when "fairness" came before the rules and such.

Because Necrons would be impossibly resilient if they didn't have Phase Out as a rule... :P

Okay, maybe it can stand some updating, but it kinda sucks to fight Necrons as is (from my experience as Tau and Eldar anyway)... having to kill them all... :-X... [me=Ellipsisman]shudders[/me]

Ellipsis, your having trouble fighting crons? Dude, Banshees, prisms, EML toting warwalkers, an avatar and fire dragons should fix that problem up!

Still sucks as Tau though. If we had something like the Reaper Launcher, it would be great. The closest thing we have is an Ion Cannon. Compare 1 Ion Cannon to 5 Dark Reapers, i know which id take. Plenty of shots with good S and AP. Not as mobile granted, but more deadly.

I don't own any of those, so yeah, I'm having trouble :-\

I like the way Shining Spears work out, but I only have three... I intend to get Prisms, Fire Dragons, and maybe a few more War Walkers, but thanks for the advice . I take that back, 'Crons can not Phase Out when I fight them as Eldar, but as Tau they still have to Phase Out :funny:...

Jayne, I run a full sMech-sy list as Eldar. Reapers=sitting ducks... expensive sitting ducks...

Phase Out exists because things used to have this concept called balance.
Oh, you're very tough? Well your guys quit three quarters of the way through, so you're even!
Oh, this guy gives your soldiers better morale? If he dies, then everyone might run away!

Now its more like:
Oh, you have a 2+ Armour Save? It's dangerous to go alone, take this 3+ Invulnerable save too!

I Lold.

Using the 2+/3++ referance as balance does seem to suggest that T5/4+/FnP/WBB may not be completly unrealistic.
