is it just me or is C'tan fluff really iffy ???

'Iffy' as in it sucks, or Iffy as in its supposed to be mysterious and while they were writing it didnt really know what it was about. I think its supposed to be kinda mysterious, just cause they are the C'tan and all.

C'tan fluff, unlike the Tau, Tyranids and everyone else, was rammed into the 40K universe, with no regard for what came before. If Fluff were animals, C'tan are viruses.

As for "best unit"... as I've never seen one earn its points back in a battle, that's questionable...

According to WD, the only C'tan fluff in 2nd edition was a passing reference of them being "sealed beyond the Gates of Vaul".

Now, suddenly, they made the Tau, made the Tyranids, live on Mars, and countless other bloody-stupid concepts.

I don't think the C'Tan quite turned out the way they wanted.
If you two can leave each others throats alone for a bit, please tell me, who knows of the fluff but has a moderate opinion why it sucks, or why it is good.

For:
Ctan have the best stats of any unit in the game.
This is not fluff. We are debating the background of the C'Tan, not the unit.

Against:
The fluff has the feeling of being rammed into any available part of the 40K history.
Okay, give me some examples.

1) Dragon is supposedly the Omnissiah.
2) The Outsider supposedly controls the Tyranids.
3) The Tau were supposedly created by the C'tan.
4) Fluffwise, C'tan are invincible. If you kill one, it's soul just runs off and finds a new body (real mature way to create a character...).
5) Nightbringer is (supposedly) so scary that his image (eg: Grim Reaper) is burned into the racial memory of every single race. Bull****. If we can't even decide what God looks like, we sure as hell won't remember the Nightbringer.
6) Necrons (as a by product) went from mysterious, unfathomable raiders to brainless goons of the C'tan. They ruined the Necrons for me.

Need I go on?
