Default Add to my Army

Hey guys! I recently rekindled my cron army out of storage and I am going to begin building it up to a full size force. My current force is as follows:

1 Lord on foot

40 warriors

3 Destroyers

10 Scarab Swarms

Essentially, this force is a battleforce with the addition of a Lord and a warrior box. I was planning on a small unit of Immortals, possibly some more destroyers, and I definitely plan on buying a monolith for larger games. Once I hit 2k points ill buy a nightbringer for a leader. Any other musts? By the way, I play using the tele-robot tactic, using veil of darkness right now.

Immortals are fun. I enjoy using tomb spiders, they look awesome.

I'd say to add a Heavy Destroyer to complement the regular destoyers. Three destroyers screening a pair of heavies works great, as the volume of fire from the destroyers clears away most infantry threats, while the heavy destoyers move in to kill the tanks/TEQs. My friend has tones of success with this tacktic.

As a long time necron player, I have to agree with both posts above.

Tomb spiders are great for helping keep you lines together, and can be used in small groups to kill terminators. (They are only wounded on a '6' by power weapons, and fists strike after the spiders do.) Just don't use lone spiders this way, as they have too few wounds to survive even 1:3 spider to term battles.

With glancing hits no longer able to destroy tanks, heavy destroyers are a must for most necron lists. Do not get just 1, as two or more will allow for WBB rolls, increasing their survivability.

Immortals are the best unit to 'port with, as the higher toughness, and better gun work far better for that tactic.

I'd also look into a second lord to carry a res orb with your main troops while the veil lord does his thing. It will add a lot of survivability to your troops.

I would not play wraiths unless you are going to remove the destroyers, as you really need 6-9 wraiths and a destroyer lord to make them work well.

Flayed ones and pariahs are specialist units, so I'd save them for later in the collection.

I would not get c'tan. The current rumor is that they will be made Apoc. only in the next codex. Why spend the money on something you can only use for another few months.

I'd look into more warriors (and the extra scarabs that come with them) as well as more destroyers. These three units (Warriors, scarabs, and destroyers) are pretty hard to go wrong with. More of these rarely hurts. But I'd look into these only after you have added the spiders and heavy destroyers to your list.

My 2k list runs a monolith that will DS, heavy destroyers, warriors, immortals, wraiths, and lords.

It seems to do reasonably well.

I think a second lord is a good priority, specially with larger point battles. Giving a lord with a destroyer body and a res orb and you can keep your mobile units covered as well as your foot sloggers.

A common tactic is res orb/VoD jumping around with immortals and a destroyer/res/warscythe to run around with destroyers. The lord with the warscythe has T6 and a weapon that ignore invuln saves, making him an excellent HQ/tank/annoying-unit-that-always-has-invuln-save kiling unit.

well enjoy the 5th ed goodness. field at least 1 lith, possibly 2 in 2K points game.
field at least a 10man immortal squad, they're fun and very useful to field.

i don't usually field heavy destroyers, but you can use some FAs destroyers if you want.

also for 5th ed, i would suggest a Lord with Vod & RO should be enough.

Wraiths are ALL or nothing, field all or none at all.

for my 2k list I field Lord with VoD/RO, Immortals, Liths and lotsa warriors.
