Default Starting Necrons

Hey all,

Well I have decided to start a Necron army because of a box set I saw in GW the other day. However after reading the starting guide by Mal I looked into getting 2 battleforces.
Now I am trying to work out what would be better bang for my buck so to speak.
Well here are the 2 boxes I am looking at, I can get 2 Battleforces that will give me 56 warriors 14scarab bases(a few more if I place 3 on a base) 6Destoryers. at 300AUD
http://oz.games-workshop.com/storefr...006&orignav=10
or the Necron Warrior Phalanx.
This will give me a Lord 48 Warriors 6 Destroyers 1 monolith plus approx 12-14 scarabs. at 316AUD
http://oz.games-workshop.com/storefr...010&orignav=10

Now my question to some of the Necron players, is the $16 increase and the monolith worth the loss of 8 warriors?

Shiki~

I think it is. The Monolith is an extremely versatile piece of kit. It does so much.

Warriors, on the other hand, are easily made up if you need more - but 48 is a very hefty number.

How big are the games you're going to be playing?

standard is 2-3k.
I think i worked out the points from the phalanx is roughly 1.8k but it does seem like it contains enough to make a good 1.5k list to start with.

I was thinking the same thing about the monolith and in a 2k list I think the monolith has a fairly decent place. Also I was thinking about converting 2-3 of the Destroyers into heavy Destroyers.

Also, you get no Lord in the battle forces.
I'd go with the Warrior Phalanx, enough there for anyone to start with :P

You do save a hefty amount more with the Warrior Phalanx, & you can always purchase some more Warriors if the large bunch you already have don't seem enough.

Thanks for the help guys, I was just worried about the phase out number. But your right I can just as easily grab another box of warriors to flash out the squads abit more.

Well another week or so to till I get this gem.

Phase out isnt nearly as critical as people make it out to be. Sure, with a monolith you have a few less wounds...but you also have a monolith. The extra WBBs will save a coupla wounds in itself, and the sheer firepower is likely to prevent casualties.

This is true, but you also have to take into account placement and how many big guns his opponent will take :P I fear Res Orbs more than Monoliths.

Acctually I think the rough 1.8k guesstimate for points was worked out with Lord with a res orb and Warsomething (sorry forgot the name of the weapon as I am at work and don't have my dex with me.)
