Default Beginner of Necron (Need Help!)

I just started Warhammer 40k and I want to collect the Necrons.
The problem is I don't know a Squad about Necron!
Our club manager taught a person how to play 40k and I watched so I kind of know some rules but that was Ultramarine vs Tyranids (Battle for Macragge boxed set)
I'm getting the rulebook and I need an idea for a small army such as 250 to 500pt

first things first: make sure the necrons really are the army for you. when i started i was keen on necrons too, but the lack of diversity put me off. but that's just me. surf a few websites, flick through a store copy of the codex until you make up your mind. when you're sure, get the codex, read it thoroughly and maybe pick up a box or two of Necron Warriors - these guys are essential to any and every Necron army, so you can't go wrong with them. beyond that, the sky's the limit, though my first priority would be to get enough troops for two units of Warriors and a Lord to begin with.

I agree with Arnorath about being sure about the army you want, but if/when you decide they really are for you (which, come to think of it, you probably already have), the first thing you'll need is the Codex. This contains all the rules for Necrons, as well as background & paint schemes (handy if you don't fancy their dull generic one). After that, a box (or two) of Warriors should be your next purchase. Finally you'd be wanting a Lord (there's a choice of 2 models for them, so pick the one you like the most). After you have those core units for your army, just get whichever models you like the look of!

the above two summed it up. Don't worry, i was in the same boat, but i sorted it out. So, if you want to play as necrons then....
Yes, get the codex, Number 1 priority!!
Next, the models: To start off, Either (depending On funds) Get 2 boxes of Warriors there is 12 in a box, and a the Warriors Squad is a 10-20 Man Team. (The Warriors is the only troop choice for Necrons)
Or, a Battle force, coming in at 50, you get....28 Warriors (2 Troops choices), 7 scarab Swarm bases. (Fast Attack Slots there, Fast and good for tying up units, can survive long but wont do much damage) and 3 Destroyers (1 fast attack slot) Fast jetbikes that can kill just about anything (With the Gauss special rule ).
Then a Lord, there is one on foot an a mounted version (more exepnsive both poit wise and wise) The foot version come with a res. orb (Almost one Lord in every Necrons army has this) and a warsythe (Very good piece of equipment, ignores all saves)
The mounted i think comes with the basic Staff of Light (Power Weapon)

So, a small 500pnt force would be 20 warriors at least (Thats the legal minimum you need) and a Lord with nothing else on him, leaving you 40Pnts to spare, for wargear, scarab or More Warriors. Hope i have helped you here. Goodnight

I converted my own mounted lord out of a standing lord, and a destroyer model. Looks a bit better in my highly biased opinion, but more importantly, it saved $$, as I didnt want my destroyers to start with.

Army box, a lord, and a codex are solid choices though. You *must* run two units of warriors in any list, so you may as well just get the box.

Thanks
Soon I'll be getting 1 box of Necron warriors, 2 Immortals, Necron lord with warscythe and Res Orb(Maybe), and of course the Necron Codex.
By the way, does a box of Necron warriors comes with 1 or 2 Scarab Swarm bases?

It comes with 12 Scarabs, making 3 bases (if you put 4 on each base).

Why get Immortals???? Destroyers are way better so I would save up for a battleforce because you get 3 destroyers.

Actually, I'm not buying them, I'm just getting the Necrons my friend is going to give me since he stopped playing 40k and is now more interested in playing LOTR so basically I don't pick what I get, exept for the Necron warrior boxed set and the Codex, those I have to buy.

Destroyers are more expensive, and use up Fast attack Slots.

Its better (cheaper) to put 3 on a base, the buy extra bases. (or if your box come with more big bases. :P), and this looks better as scarabs have 3 attacks and 3 wounds, not 4 :P
