Default Starting Necrons

OK like the title said I plan to start Necrons I'm wondering what I should buy I'm going to buy a Codex, 2 Battleforces and 1 Necron Destroyer Lord. Any thing else that is essential (I'm going to use a warrior heavy list so...) other than that any suggestions.

So I believe thats 56 Warriors 1 Necron Destroyer Lord (I may convert the extra parts to a necron lord on foot or the spares to make another for a destroyer), 6 Destroyers (I may convert them to some Heavy Destroyer) 14 Scarab Swarms. So with out conversions thats about 1656 (Don't say this is on the wrong board I'm not making a list just saying what I have)

Thats a pretty good basis for an army...the traditional necron army is composed of lots of warriors, destroyers, a lord with a res orb, and either more destroyers, more warriors, or a monolith.

Note: if you decide you want to trade scarabs off for something, let me know. I need buckets of the buggers, and Im sick of buying warriors.

that sounds like s strong starting force, and is bigger then mine. i brought a warriors box, battleforce, 2 heavy destroyers, tomb spyder and a lord. You might need to think about maybe a tomb spyder for H2H, and some immortals,
your list phases out at about 15/16, although my calculator is going mental ???

Thats a lot of warriors to paint there

Well mate, it all really depends on what type of army you want to play. I like lots of troops, and high numbers which give me an advantage on phase out. So I'd recommend a smaller force of stuff to start out with so that you can develope a sense of what you really want to play with Necrons, point of the game is to have fun, and powerlisting is lame.

Since the Necron warrior has the potential to kill anything this will work well, warriors near an orb can be hard buggers to kill, and 56 of them, the only thing I can imagine stopping them fast is pie plates, S8-10 pie plates might spell trouble for WBB.

That is a very true statement my friend, thats why I use 60 warriors, and 2 lords with res orbs, just in case, I will admit I am a little short on fast attack/heavy support options, but throw in some scarabs for unit tie up, and some pariah's and flayed ones for the bonus on morale rolls, and your rockin' anything that has alot of low leadership troops.

well necrons don't need as quite many specialists as other forces with Gauss and such, yes the odds of one shot killing a tank is slim but 20 warriors rapidfireing into the tank and you are screwed. What I found odd is how in one turn of combat 10 orks and a warboss made 10 warriors and res orb run from CC then assaulted as they were falling back, the necrons didn't rally, squad destroyed! My orks do way better against necrons than my marines did. (probably because on most ork vehicles you would glance on a 6 or less anyway...) Destroyers are hard to kill as well, I killed 2out of 3, the dead ones did WBB, (oh crap...) this happened twice before they finally died. Fighting necrons can be hilariously difficult...
