Right, bear in mind I don't have the Codex handy (there's some sort of Daemonic force in my room that makes any Codex I want to use vanish into oblivion until I don't need it anymore. :
), but I've got a rough force in my head...2x 10 Warriors. 3x 10 Flayed Ones. 900pts. Now I obviously need a Lord to add to this (hence the problem... no Codex, no clue how much he costs), someone to suit the army. The force, as you may have guessed, is pretty much geared for close combat. Ideas on what to spend the last 600pts on to get it to 1,500 are appreciated... but try to keep the close-combat theme in mind. No tactics in mind yet either, as I don't know what the rest of the army will be.

Well, your Lord is going to run you between 100-200 pts. Then, I would throw in Scarabs or Wraiths I suppose, if you are sticking purely CC.
Perhaps a lord on destroyer body and some wraiths so they can zip around the table.

I would take a wraith wing with a destroyer lord too. That would take up about... 416 - 539 points, if you took the resurrection orb. The 539 points is a nice buy though, 9 wraiths with a lord to support them.
I would keep his Staff Of Light though, because it count's as a power weapon already. If you keep the Staff Of Light you get to shoot 3x then assault and have 4 attacks. If you give him the Warscythe then he only gets 4 attacks without the low AP shots, but his attacks would ignore all saves. It's your call then eh? |

The list you are going for is very good, I personally like it. The flayed ones infiltrate and your cc element at the deployment zone turboboosts to get close in a hurry. Then you have a turn 2 assault minimum with the flayed ones. Flayed ones also tear IG, Tau, Nids (amazingly enough), and anything else apart. There effectiveness is greatly improved the more you have. They also get to pick up the dead, so you can get big squads even if other ones die.
The problem with this list is the lack of anti-vehicular damage in it. Wraiths can't get disruption fields and flayed ones are normally too slow. Scarabs with D fields may be your best bet. I would defiantly go for the wraith wing. The slew of high Initiative(only dark eldar and some nids can match), high strength, and number of attacks are devastating. They also have that hand save and can, with the correct lord, be very good at taking down powerfist wielding marines. So for lord- warscythe, res orb, destroyer body, phase shifter:210 points Lord moves with wraiths, res orb essentially negates power weapons, phase shifter lets him take power weapon attacks, and the warscythe lets him go character hunting and take down vehicles if necessary. 9 wraiths = 369 points Now here is where you will have problems. You have a decided lack of anti-vehicular power. You can take some flayed ones away and equip the remainder with disruption fields. They probably will not get to use them, but handy against dreads. You can take some wraiths away and try to get as many scarabs as possible with Dfields. I calculate you can get 9 scarabs with Dfields, not a bad amount. You can also take some units away and pick up some heavy destroyers, but they are defiantly not good with cc. So there is my advice. Take what you like. Have fun slicing all those guardsmen into nice new pelts. P.S. I am very glad some one else is going to bloody fun of cc necrons. I just love the idea of my flayed ones with different colored skin on them, mainly the orky kind.

I'd pick up some Scarabs...they fit in with the theme of CC Necrons, and they'd help out with the tank busting. A Tomb Spider (or 2) might not be so bad either...they're monsterous creatures, with pretty good CC capabilities, and they make more Scarabs, plus they keep your Choppas going...and going...and going...
Pariahs would also fit this army, but they're expensive as heck, slow and would cut into your phase out. Still...there's no better choppas in the Necron army, providing you can get them into CC in the first place. Wraiths are always good, and a Lord with a scythe closes the deal. hope this helps, -M |
