Considering that the name of the game in 5th ed is control the objective and that only troop can do so I might consider bumping your troop to at least 3 units.

Not sure where to get the points though.

I'm looking at your list, and I see no good purpose for the Veil Lord. I would drop him entirely, and take back those destoyers you dropped. Also, just as a suggestion, find some points to scrape off (Like the wargear on the Lord. I see no point to Gaze of flame or the warscythe, honestly. You should be zooming around the board, not in combat. Also, on that note, I don't see an advantage to have a Destroyer Lord with Destoryers. You don't really benifit from it. Give him a Rezorb and keep him with the warriors to prevent Phase Out)

Just a question: Have you ever tried a C'tan? I know they are expensive, and hard to learn to use effectivly, but they are probably the best thing in the Codex.

I have never played yet as I am totally new to the game.
I'm looking at making an Army list then getting the models if it becomes a competitive list

I am putting together lists for many of the Armies, the Necrons are the first I have done more or less on my own (with the aid of you guys on here)

I can either go with:-

HQ
Lord Resurrection Orb, Phylactery 155 - Stay with Warriors

Troops
10 Warriors 180
10 Warriors 180
10 Warriors 180

Fast Attack
5 Destroyers 250
5 Destroyers 250

Heavy Support
2x Tomb Spyders 110
2 Heavy Destroyers 130
Monolith 235

Total Points 1670

OR

HQ
Nightbringer 360

Troops
10 Warriors 180
10 Warriors 180
10 Warriors 180

Fast Attack
4 Destroyers 200
3 Destroyers 150

Heavy Support
2x Tomb Spyders 110
2 Heavy Destroyers 130
Monolith 235

Total Points 1725

I would say go with the second list, but with the Deceiver as opposed to the Nightbringer. With the points saved, get another Destroyer or some such. They are both good, but the Deceiver is, in my and many others' opinions, a better value. He trades a point of Strength, and attack, and a couple of funky attacks (the scythe bolt and harvest souls, whatever their actual names are) for a number of special abilities. For instance, he can leave combat at any time, he can pin fearless units, he can redeploy your army... The deceiver may be somewhat more difficult to learn to use because he's not quite the Beatstick that the Nightbringer is. The Deceiver is a slightly smaller Beatstick with some really cool special abilities.

I'm curious as to why your two lists aren't of equal point value.

For the first list I'd recommend filling out it's points so it's equal to the second. I'd also recommend you choose something besides Phylactery for your lord. If he's going to be a babysitter he likely won't see enough action to need more than just one wound when he gets back up. I'd suggest a Gaze of Flame to help against assaults as well/or a Chronometron for the same purpose. I also like the Nightmare Shroud since it can hit a bunch of things at the same time, but that might be better on a more aggressive lord. To even out the points you could always get another Heavy Destroyer or Tomb Spyder.

I agree that the Deceiver has more utility, but if you like the Nightbringer more, or think it brings more of what you need to your list go ahead and stick with him. Just watch out for the fact that he can get stuck in a tarpit while the Deceiver never gets stuck. Though, even discounting all of the other advantages the Deceiver brings, I think the ability to not get stuck in combat is enough to justify the cheaper C'tan.

One thing that could be considered is scarabs. :redscarab: I know they seem rubbish but if you give them disruption fields they suddenly become an amazing anti tank unit. And they can get a 2+ cover save from turbo boosting!

How about this one?

HQ
Deceiver 300

Troops
10 Warriors 180
10 Warriors 180
10 Warriors 180

Fast Attack
4 Destroyers 200
4 Destroyers 200

Heavy Support
2x Tomb Spyders 110
2 Heavy Destroyers 130
Monolith 235

Total Points 1715

I had thought about Scarabs, but I know the Tomb Spyders can dump them out if needed.
Plus the Destoyers and Heavy Destoyers should deal with Tanks etc... (hopefully!)

Is there enough Close Combat stuff in here (should it come to it)?

You should always have a game plan in mind when you design a list. =] I like to use Wraiths to contest objectives while large warrior groups (14-15) port around looking to land on objectives.

Quote:
HQ
Deceiver 300

Troops
10 Warriors 180
10 Warriors 180
10 Warriors 180

Fast Attack
4 Destroyers 200
4 Destroyers 200

Heavy Support
2x Tomb Spyders 110
2 Heavy Destroyers 130
Monolith 235
I would lose the deciever personally. I find a lord with an orb and veil to be much more effective. Now mind you, the deceiver is a beast, but I have not used the C'Tan much in 5th edition.

I would also consider having only one squad of 5 destroyers, add in 6 wraiths, lose the heavy destroyers and boost up those warrior numbers. Also the list I quoted does not come out to 1750 points.

Hope this input is helpful!
