To the other musicians here, who else is a big theory junkie? I absolutely love odd scales and meters. Plus, I don't find it too terribly mind-blowing... Well, not anymore :P. What are some of the odder things you guys like to use when you right?

What I meant was, who else enjoys music theory... A lot. Can't get enough of it type of thing. And yes I meant write. Thank you for picking up on that.

Yeah, it's kinda cool to discuss music theory. But I'm more into the listening theory, as I can't really play...
For writing lyrics (the one thing I can do) I usually go with feelings. And when I finally get that guitarist, bassist and drummer, I'm gonna try to make them do the same.

You can use theory to capture mood. Different scales, and progressions within those scales have different moods to them. For example, if you want something super sad, go with a d minor or d harmonic minor. That's about as sad as it gets.
