Default Drummers and drums!

This thread is for anything and everything drum related. Favourite drummers, least favourite drummers, things you like and don't like, things you can do and things you can't.

I only got into drums fairly recently - I've played bass and guitar for several years and sung for several years minus one (apparently I'm pretty good), and thanks to the encouragement of a friend who foremost plays drum and piano but now also plays guitar I have come to the kit. I don't have my own kit yet - but I plan to take the same approach to drums as he did to guitar, i.e: minimal. After buying his guitar he snapped several strings, leaving him with only the bottom three, and he writes entire songs on them. If someone told me that I'd have said "riiiight..." but bizarrely they all sound really awesome. I don't know how he does it =/ but yeah, back to drums I'm doing a variation on the same minimalist thing - bass drum, hi hat, snare, a splash cymbal and see what I can get out of that (though I might need a ride...)!

Also inspired by Phil Collins, I'm doing my best to sing at the same time so with luck I can keep my reputation as a singer and still be a drummer =P

Anyway - all other drummers on TO, congregate here and talk about hitting things with sticks =) (Orks also welcome...)

Right Ive been playing drums for bout a year now (check my Sig for my current set) and i have to say its sooooo fun :P. Having just received my double bass and new heads i can kick out some kick ass beats.

Depending on how you wana play it'll depend on what kit you want but my advice for your first kit. 20"-22" bass, 12"/13"/14" toms, combination of two and a nice deep 16" floor tom. then cymbal set is 14" or smaller if you wish, 20" ride and 16" just to get you started.

If you wana see someone amazing who can sing and drum, check James Sullivan aka the rev from Avenged Sevenfold in a few of the new songs. Critical acclaim and a little piece of heaven i thinks.

So get back to me an I'll help as much as possible, first off I'll post pic of my kit tomoz.

The Rev sings? I didn't know that. I just know that he's an awesome drummer and I can't hope to attain that level of skill any time soon =P

Doesn't the bloke from Funeral For A Friend do vocals too?

My subtle diagram disagrees with you.
your "subtle" diagram contains Optimus Prime and Proffessor Farnsworth, it's heresy in it's own right!
Any similarities between your reality and mine are purely coincidental...

I don't play drums though I did dable in them a while ago. It turns out I have no real rythem what so ever and it wouldn't feel right druming to a metronome... (other then practicing I talk to my drummer though allot about his kit and such and have made some patterns and such...(Allbeit they just use 3-4 pieces... (without cymbols) So he just kinda complicates them sticking to the General Structure.

I agree with Scott's sugestion of a kit (Given my limited knoledge) and would also add this guy, Dan Beehler great singer, better drummer though

My favourite drummers are George Kollias, Zbigniew Robert Prominski "Inferno", Kjetil Vidar Haraldstad "Frost", Jan Axel von Blomberg "Hellhammer", Nicholas Howard Barker , Kuba Kogut, Thomas Richard Christy, Witold Kieltyka (r.i.p.), Florient Mounier, Michael Stephen Portnoy.
They are great drummers, in my opinion. And they're not only fast as hell. There are a lot of metal drummers that are fast and nothing more. But these are incredibly skilled
