Default Nighwish...

Amaranth. New single. First time that Anette has been let loose on my ear drums (aside from the charity moment). And with her comes with a new Nightwish...

That very thought turns my blood cold. Yes, I am still getting over the loss of Tarja, but thats just me. The matter is the sound that we have been given with this new single - listen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdZn7k5rZLQ

Best to avoid watching the video - I can't stand to watch Anette dance, especially in contrast to Mrs. Turunens staticness. Oh, and the nipple wobble from Holopian.

I'm leaning on the "like" side of things here. Yes it's new territory for Nightwish. But after a good number of listenings (I lost count at 20) I can say, personally, Anette is a fitting replacement for Tarja, both in voice and looks My only fear, that has yet to be squashed, is that they may just end up being a Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation or (please good lord no!!) Evenescence.

Anyways - Enjoy and tell me what you think.

I downloaded a leak of the album.

The only thing vocally that saves the album is Marco.

Anette's voice just doesn't suit anything bar Eva IMO. On the whole i was disappointed. Very disappointed.

I'm gonna go on the neutral side and say I haven't made up my mind yet.
Ultimately, it's not up to whether she is better then Tarja or worse. She sings a lot differently. It really depends on your own personal taste, one person have the oppinion that Anette is total crap and can't sing to save her life, wheras other people may think that she is Nightwish's redemption.

Although, some of the songs might not suit Anette, but others might suit her a lot more then Tarja.

I'm leaning towards the positive - there is an edge on her voice I didn't hear in Eva, but otherwise the vocal talent is there.

In terms of dancing, it's not smooth, but there's certainly a sexy quality to her .

Thanks for showing, I'll look later (we have a film on)

I did like eva, so I'm hopeful. After all, a new singer and a change does not necessarily mean GD Syndrome

Edit: I've seen it now... its, different. It doesn't make me think "Nightwish" but I do like it.

I know what you mean Silk, I've gotten used to Tarja, Annette's swaying was very different to what I'm used to, but she is hot :P

Eh... I'm leaning towards 'bad' here. Maybe it's just the song, but I don't think Anette could ever replace Tarja. Her voice is what made Nightwish!

I agree, her style of operatic singing first attracted me to them.

However, after listening to the album in full, I must say I like it. Yes, its very different, but I think its a good album in its own right. My favourites so far being Bye Bye Beautiful, Poet, and Cadence, as well as the ones we know, Amarath and Eva.

So, IMO, I like it, and will buy it when its released, after hearing it in full, I'm pleased.

Its Nightwish Jim, but not as we know it.

I have yet to hear their new singer. Although I do think Tarja was great I haven't become so enamoured with Nightwish that I can't listen to them without her. Afterall the Nightwish version of High Hopes is great, I think and Tarja doesn't feature on that at all.

I'm planning to go and see Nightwish live in London on March 25th with my brother and a couple of friends. Is anyone else planning on going to that gig?

I always found Tarja's voice to be so-so if I'm honest. Don't get me wrong, she has had her moments (wishmaster is a very good album when Im in a power metal mood). Although I havn't heard it Im interested in how the new album will go, but I don't think it will ever give Nightwish the 'force' that I've always felt they've lacked.

My subtle diagram disagrees with you.
your "subtle" diagram contains Optimus Prime and Proffessor Farnsworth, it's heresy in it's own right!
Any similarities between your reality and mine are purely coincidental...
