Default In Flames- Your Thoughts?

Right okay then we haven't had one of these in a while so i decided to do one on one of my favourite metal bands, In Flames.

They are a 5 piece death metal band from Gothenburg Sweden and they put one hell of a live show on. They are thought to have pioneered 'melodic death metal', but i just see them as death metal. They have been around for roughly 17 years.

I have 4 of their 8 albums.

Heres some of my favourite songs to aid your decision if you haven't heard of them before.

Clayman (could only find an anime mecha film as they haven't done a video for it)

Reroute to remain (could only find a ff film because once again they haven't done a video)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etzSM0yvQmc

Colony (live)

System

As always keep the flaming down

Dude, In Flames is amazing! They're definitely in my top 5 metal bands of all time. Each one of their albums is different but still keeping with the same melodic death metal thing. Anders varies his vocals a lot more than most of the death metal-ers. The one thing I like the most though is their badass use of harmonies!

I actually purchased their first album Lunar Strain back in 93 or 94, when it came out, and liked it quite a lot back then. They seemed to be a part of a Swedish movement within death-metal at the time, together with bands like Dark Tranquility and At The Gates, who emphasized melodic metal influences, instead of the grind-core influences displayed by bands like Entombed, Dismember and Grave. I remember I was especially taken with their use if fiddle on the album.

I listened to that type of death for a while before becoming a bit tired of the overly melodic bands that followed , and got another few of their albums as well (Jester Race, Whoracle and Clayman I think) as seeing them live at a few festivals (Wachen open air in Germany and Dynamo in the Netherlands I believe) and they always delivered a good performance.

A good band, but not a personal favorite.

I've only got the album "Come Clarity" but if what I have read is true, and that is the least good of all, the rest must be amazing.

I really like them - I heard "Take This Life" on Scuzz, and was hooked.

I really like the guitar, and the matching of the lyrics, while not normally a massive fan of screamed lyrics, on the song "Come Clarity" the tortured sound of his voice is truly amazing, IMO.

I absolutely hated some of the material on Come Clarity... their older material rocks, however. Not completely sold on any element, but combined they're great listening material.

Possibly my favourite vid of theres - Only for the Weak and Clayman live, back to back.

I like them. I don't understand people claiming they've "sold out" though. But then again I never do.

I really like In Flames and that's a big thing for me considering normally I hate death metal (really, the whole screaming into a mic thing just doesn't do it for me). However, I started listening to the Come Clarity album and really found quite a few songs I really liked ("Vanishing Light" is one of my favorites, it's just got one hell of a solid, rolling bassline).

Sometime I might check out their older stuff but I'm a bit busy lately. Don't really like their videos, but I'm into music for the sounds, not the sights anyway.
