Default Classical and Jazz?

I need help. I have a bunch of classical and jazz loving friends, but they're all into the full of life upbeat side of it. I really like these two genres, but I really want some of the really melancholic ones. For classical, stuff like Moonlight Sonata but not as.....ancient. The Schindler's List and Der Untergang piano themes I found great. I also listened to some Tchaikovsky and Schubert as was suggested and found that pretty good.

As for jazz, the borderline blues sad street jazz, like the Bladerunner Blues by Vangelis.

Any suggestions?

I can't think of a ton of em right now but, for jazz I'd say Mood Indigo and Black and Tan Fantasy By Duke Ellington as a start.

Igor Stravinsky "The Rite Of Spring"

Modest Mussorgsky(sp?) "Night On Bald Mountain"

Not really Melancholic, but good anyway.
