Default Angels & Airwaves

Now, I realize everyone probaly is going to dismiss them sheerly because Tom Delonge is in them. But I recently got 'We Don't Need To Whisper' and its actually a very excellent record. Musically, it (while some will say boring) paints very pretty images and lyrically its some very good stuff. I've like, fallen in love with the album&band.

Anyone else a fan?

It has the two worst songs on there, but you can get the basic idea for the album.

I've been a fan of Blink since Cheshire Cat. Tom isn't the most competent musician but he rights some cool stuff. My problem is that he seems to have got himself stuck in a very similar sound for the last few albums he's been in. A&A sounds very similar (vocally among other things) to Boxcar, and is even reminiscent of Blink's self titled. So he not really bringing anything new to the table.

Also when they just goofed off I loved them. I know they (blink) hated being grouped into the 'immature' genre of music but that's really what they excelled at, namely fast, catchy, pop-punk songs with emo/silly lyrics and an endearing shallowness. Tom said he wanted to be seen as grown up and whatever, but I can hardly take him seriously when he wants laser light shows while he's playing.

Mark is producing and doing radio stuff, Travis is the man and can do whatever he wants (he was in the aquabats after all), but Tom seems like the only one who is riding a dying horse a bit to far into the desert (if you know what I mean).

Also you may have noticed that I focused a lot on Tom even though this should be a A&A discussion. In reality they market themselves as the next vehicle for Tom music, so discussing him is fine. The rest of the band (a lot like Boxcar) is simply there to play what Tom writes.

Not really, obviously vocally cause its the same vocalist. Instrumentally is completely different, it focuses on painting images and the guitar sounds alot less heavy, and lyrically its completely different. These lyrics are more poetry-based and pretty, while toms lyrics for box car racer/self-titled were really just 'oh im sad, so sad i feel mad' and stuff like that. Angels and Airwaves is way different.

Toms a prick, that doesn't really have anything to do with their actual music though.
