Patrick sighed and started heading down the hill with the others.

"Looks like I'll be with these jokers a little longer," muttered Patrick under his breath as he stowed his baton and began to check over his SMG, making sure that he was ready for whatever they might stumble into.

Zack watched as Anubis started to head off towards the encampment in the west, and Thomas shouted after him. The rest of the group followed, figuring safety in numbers was a good bet. Zack began to follow them, checking that his pistol was armed and ready, just in case.

Rendrag decided for now to stick with them... He hung back several meters from the group.

He threw his hands in his leather jacket after flicking up his coller.
'Not used to this wind thing yet, it's kinda cold' He said to those who gave him an odd look.

Anubis looked round to see he was no longer alone in approaching the encampment. Seeing that others had their guns ready, he followed suit. He had heard the noises on the wind as well as the anyone, but he was unsure of some of his companions intentions out here in this uncontrolled environment. Until he decided he could show any trust and weapons were being bared, he would mirror that.
*Puts baton away and grips the pistol (which is loaded) and takes the safety off as he nears the encampment*

The encampment was a fair walk away, but it gave the party time to get a feel for the environment.

Once, much of this land was farmland. A large village was south of the camp, but no sign of life could be seen.

Drawing closer, evidence of activity was found; the lead scouts noted fresh tyre-tracks in the mud. Thomas called a halt when his eye caught something else; a spent bullet case. It was large; 7.62mm, commonly used in sniper rifles.

Tom saw something on the ground and picked it up. Recognizing it as a spent cartridge, he called out to the rest of the group, "Hey, everybody stop for a minute, this could be important."

He examined it before saying anything else.

A brief passing round of the cartridge results in no information being obtained beyond the fact it was fired. No-one can determine anything more, other than it is indeed a 7.62mm cartridge.

"Best look for some cover. Looks like there has been a sniper firing rounds here. Scan the area and see if there is anything else of intrigue... like the gun that it came from, or a person."
*looks around for any cover to dart from spot to spot and search*

Tom grunted. "Oh, tosh. There's all sorts of things that could've come from, and most of them have ironsights. Even so, perhaps I'm overreacting, too," he said. Nevertheless, his hand strayed to the grip of his carbine, and he looked around warily. "Let's keep moving."

Right, I'll pitch the camp and then give the folks some time to log in and post their activities. There were some damn awesome first-encounter rolls for Perception, and so you've got some sweet information from the off! :P

From the spot where the spent round was picked up, the camp is nearly due west. Signs of conflict are more obvious as the Vault Dwellers move closer; several of the tents have bullet holes. Here the ground is more firm, and spent ammunition litters the barren earth; Tom's many days spent surrounded by copies of Guns & Ammo brought up some answers as to their origins. They are mostly military-issue 7mm and .50 cal rounds. They were fired recently - no later than this morning. Several vehicles came and went, based upon the deep tracks and boot prints in the mud beyond the fence.

Just off the side of the main dirt track there is a large patch of disturbed earth. Aside from the tents, there is little else to be seen in the open.
