Default Great Knarloc, Monstrous Creature?

ok so in the 4th ed rule book it says that all wounds inflicted in close combat by a monstrous creature ignore armor saves. Now in the IA3 under mounted great knarloc in the rending beak special rule it says that roles of 6 to hit in melee automatically inflict a wound with no armor save, but all other melee attacks still need to role to wound and the victim receives their normal armor save. Also, IA3 does not indicate what kind of unit the Great Knarloc is. If the Great Knarloc is not a monstrous creature, that is stupid, and if it is why is it sucky compared to the normal rules?

the greater knarloc has rending. This means, like you said, that on the roll of a 6 to hit that the enemy suffers a wound with no armour saves allowed.

No the greater knarloc isn't as good as other creatures like it i.e carnifex

Yes this is fair

The greater knarloc is not a big crushing death machine. It is a native organism to pech, that doesn't really want to be anyway else. in short, unlike other monstrous creatures, it doesn't really want to fight.

Also it is cheaper in points

To be fair there hard enough already there so cheap i f they ignored armour saves they would be silly!>
