somepeople have said they are space rats others show wierd pictures of wormy things so tell me what are they argue for my amusment so that i might decide

They aren't space-rats. That idea flew around for a while, regardless of how daft it was, but GW had the smarts to not go down that ugly, ugly path.

Isn't there a Picture of a Hrud in the 3rd ed rulebook?

Yup. But I definitely like the new image GW gave them in Xenology... it looks a lot cooler and more 40k-ish to me.

They could still be the same thing - the Hrud in the 3rd ed rulebook wears an all-covering cloak, and that Xenology monster could fit under that.

In Xenology you see that picture BUT the Hrud also have a psychic ward or something like that that makes it so you can't really see them except for a blur. I'd be more specific except I don't have my xenology book with me (it's back home and I'm away at college).
