The problem with making a Vespid list is there's next to nothing *actually* regarding the ...anything... about Vespid itself. I mean, we have:

- They do as their leaders say
- Very alien
- Big females
- Floaty rock-islands on a Gas Giant
- Cool crystals that only females can get too
- females are bigger
- lots of wars with other species that inhabit islands

We don't even know if how likely it is that the Stingwings actually are respresentative of Vespid at all! They could be a tiny fraction of otherwise arbitrary life forms going about their business.

We don't know how technically advanced the Stingwings are without the Tau.

We don't know what other tech/weaponry they have access to.

We don't know if the Stingwings we see are 'Suit' equivalents[ie 'heavies' or vets or specialists or whatnot...bog standard?].

We don't know how well a Strngwing would go about after spending a good while in close combat training

Could they be excellent air snipers?

Perhaps they just want to take time out and study some poetry?

We just don't know!

That said, I'd love to see folks attempts at stuff [I'm more of an 'argue/debate/discuss/chat about it till Heat Death' type of thinker] and try'n contribute as best from there on in.

For one, I like the *concepts* of the Stingwings, and think a bit of 'fleshing out' would be excellent.

Well in the Codex it says that war between the other Vespids countries was undesirerable and rare with technology, but they didn't have space technology. What I'm thinking is that the Vespids were in a post WW I to early Cold War technology. What was it that they ate, Gaint bug cows.

Personally, I see the Stingwings as nothing more than cannon-fodder; worker-drones given guns and sent to fight and die for the Hive.

Anyway, my ideas...

HQ:
Spire-Queen:
Big, bulky, and downright ugly! Not much in combat (though very high Toughness and Str...), she's essentially a massive egg-layer. Uses "Pheromonal control" or something similar to give massive Ld boosts (think Space Marine / Guard HQs).

Elites:
Storm-Talons:
The "Soldier" Vespid. Bigger, stronger and deadlier, think flying Genestealers.

Troops:
Stingwings:
Current Vespid unit, though cheaper and with a slightly downgraded rifle (Str 4 AP 4) to represent them using a less refined version of the modern Neutron Blaster.

Fast Attack:
No idea yet.

Heavy Support:
Tempests:
Another "Soldier" breed, Tempests carry bloody-huge guns (Neutron Blasters on steroids!) with which to blow the hell out of everyone.

I like the way you think Wargamer, but 4, 4? little high Ap there, 5, D6. It does say that the crytals were unstable did it not?

So roll a d6 at the start of each shooting phase for each unit to determine the ap of that volly.

Remember that they are currently AP 3...

Droping the weapon to Str 4 Ap 4 would allow for a significant cost-drop, thus making Stingwings a viable rank & file unit.

Perhaps Neutron Blasters can be given to other units, representing trade with the Empire (or, if you prefer, a select few ultra-refined weapons for the Queen's honour-guard).

There's also the question of weapon-names. "Neutron Blaster" I dislike... it implies to much with regards to conventional physics.

Maybe... since these are Crystal based, and somewhat Chaotic in nature... Chyst! ;D

How about some tanks that look like the big beetle things from "Starship Troopers". A flamer/Fusion blaster type thing for a main weapon would work out well... maybe a rider or two with light weapons. Not a skimmer, but maybe give it some fluff transport from island to island.
