Sample Army lists - Work Horse Read all of the following before proceeding to post in this thread. Only post if you have an army list to add, or if you are critiquing an army list - which you post HERE. Approval critiques are welcome because we want to take only the ones we all agree upon. If you critique something, explain why with your critique and be sure you note which list you are referring to. Please send me a Personal Message if you have any questions regarding this thread.
Welcome to the very first thread in this Space Marine Tactica board! The Space Marine board could use a couple of sample army lists that starting Space Marine Captains could use in their very first games. So, I could use all your help in putting together a couple of decent generic army lists for various variations available to us for the Space Marines. This means we'll have a single list, to be an example for each variation, which I'll list out. We don't want anything too crazy, but just good all around lists which we can all create, edit, suggest, etc until we all agree on a solid choice for someone new to Space Marines perhaps. Also, thanks to MalVeauX for helping me out with organizing this. Categories: • Balanced (take on all comers, hybrid) • Mechanized (Mobility, meaning transports and Landspeeders) • Infantry only (No armoured vehicles allowed) These are the first three categories, once this proves to be successful I will add more like a Drop pod assault list or Kill-team for example. We want to generate 400 point lists, geared for Combat Patrol. We also want 1,000 and 1,500 point armies for those who will play standard missions. Those are the limits for now, as this is already -a lot- of material to have in one place. However, I'd like you to focus on the 1,000 point armies as much as possible as they are the most common for starting gamers. You can submit any type of list that fit's in these categories, so for example we can have Infantry only lists that focus on either Shooting, Assaulting or that is a Balanced type of list. Also, the list should be a Codex list. Which means that the list should not use any Traits. However, you can add a bit at the bottom of the list as to how Traits would fit in that list, for example the use of the Cleanse and Purify trait to let a Rhino squad use two special weapons because that would fit their combat role better. If you submit a list for critique, you must include the reasons for your choices. Don't just give us a list with points and leave it at that. Also, a small bit of commentary on tactics and how to use the army is also required. I'd also like to keep a general format, like this: I. - Introduction; Name/Type of Army List/Points Category - Number (First list is #1, second list is #2, third list is #3, etc) II. - Army List (Commentary for each unit selection included) III. - Summary of List; General Tactical Use Remember to keep it simple, explain all options, no abbreviations please and try to keep it clean and nicely written where possible. Don't worry about fancy formats, as this is all work in progress and will go through change and edits. When altering your list in the future - Please EDIT your original list with changes - Do NOT re-post the list. Also, when referring to a list, refer to it by it's Number - I will edit in the numbers if I have to, to keep it simple, but I think it's a simple process to call your list by number when submitting it. So try and stick to that.
List Categories and Point Values with List Numbers: • Balanced: 1a) 400 points Combat patrol :: 2a) 1000 points :: 3a) 1500 points • Mechanized: 1b) 400 points Combat patrol :: 2b) 1000 points :: 3b) 1500 points • Infantry only: 1c) 400 points Combat patrol :: 2c) 1000 points :: 3c) 1500 points When finished, all of these lists that are finalized will be kept and stored in a new stickied thread that will be posted in the Space Marines Army lists and Battle reports board with a navigable index. And you will receive full credit for your list!
Thanks in advance for your submitted lists and note that you will be rewarded for the list that makes it in the final thread. Now, get on writing and good luck! The Emperor protects!

Thanks for your lists.
![]() I have added in numbers which represent the categories and the points cost. Both lists need to have a small description on why those units are chosen and how to use the list effectively. It needs an explanation of the combat roles for each units. For now, let focus on making the list a good one to be submitted. First, list 1b: I have come up with a somewhat different that in my views would be a better option for that category. Mechanized should mean that most units in that army should be pretty mobile. Also, I find HQ units in such low points games to be too much. Now onto my version: Tactical squad: 155 points Veteran Sergeant w/ Bolt pistol and Power weapon 1 Marine w/ Plasma gun 6 Marines w/ Bolters Rhino: 58 points Smoke launchers Extra armour Assault squad: 140 points 1 Veteran Sergeant w/ Bolt pistol and power fist 4 Assault marines w/ Bolt pistols and ccw's Landspeeder: 50 points Heavy Bolter Total points: 403 I also thought about the contents of the various boxed sets, this way starting gamers won't have to buy an extra box to get all the models needed to make this list.
List 2c) Two HQ's is too much at 1000 points. The Chaplain would be the best choice for this type of list. Again, posted here is my view on how such a list should look like. Please don't be offended by it :Chaplain Reclusiarch: 106 points - Bolt pistol - Crozius Arcanum - Rosarius - Jump pack Tactical squad: 145 points - 5 marines with Bolters - 1 Marine with plasma gun - 1 Marine with missile launcher - Sergeant with Bolter fire support squad: 115 points - 4 Marines with Bolters - 1 Marine with Lascannon - 1 Marine with Plasma gun fire support squad: 115 points - 4 Marines with Bolters - 1 Marine with Lascannon - 1 Marine with Plasma gun Sniper Scout squad: 103 points - 4 Scouts with sniper rifles - 1 Scout with Heavy Bolter - Sergeant with Bolter Assault squad: 216 points - Veteran sergeant with Bolt pistol and Power fist - 2 Marines with Plasma pistol and ccw - 5 marines with Bolt pistols and ccw - All have Jump packs and frag grenades Devastator squad: 200 points - 4 Marines with missile launchers - 3 Marines with Bolters - Sergeant with bolter Army Total: 1000 points
Okay feel free to discuss these lists or if you have another list, please post it up so we can work with it.

Well the reason I had 2 HQs is because they are not pricey ones and they both have a role in the army. The Master grants the force leadership 10 and the added close combat power is good for a counter attack if necessary. The squads were also divided so that with that army you would have to buy the following:
Commander Box 1 Jump Pack Chaplain 3 Tactical Squad Boxes 2 Lascannon Devastators 1 Assault Squad Box 1 Assault Marine Sergeant with Power Fist The Chaplain really makes the assault marines deadly, despite their relatively low numbers, the power fist tactical squad backs up the assault squad by moving through cover to attack the enemy as a second supporting wave. Meanwhile the large tactical squad with the veteran sergeant and Master anchor a defensive line with the other two smaller shooty squads deployed in support positions. This gives you a force with great leadership to make sure you stick around when you need to and pass those leadership tests to make the most of your shooting and gives the force an assault element that while not numerous is still effective and of course the entire army costs less than 200 bucks, 190 to be exact and I have had great luck with a force almost exactly the same. |

List 2A)
1000pt Balanced HQ 1 Master of Sanctity Bolt Pistol Crozius Arcanum Bionics Frag Grenades Jump Pack Melta Bombs Rosarius ELITE 1 Dreadnought 140[sub]1[/sub] Assault Cannon Storm Bolter Extra Armour Tank Hunter Venerable TROOPS 7 Space Marines 263 1 Space Marine Heavy Bolter 1 Space Marine Plasma Gun 1 Veteran Sergeant Bolt Pistol Power Fist 1 Rhino Extra Armour Smoke Launchers 7 Space Marines 205 1 Space Marine Lascannon 1 Space Marine Plasma Gun 1 Veteran Sergeant Bolt Pistol Power Weapon FAST ATTACK 2 Assault Marines 172 Melta Bombs 2 Assault Marines Plasma Pistols Melta Bombs 1 Veteran Sergeant Bolt Pistol Power Fist Melta Bombs Heavy Support 1 Whirlwind 90[sub]2[/sub] Extra Armour Choices: 1. I choose a Dreadnought for my main A-T for many reason. The rending on the assault cannon is invaluable at this level of points. With the ability to reach armour penetration of 19, most armour won't stand up to it. Also, being venerable adds a layer of protection for the Dreadnought, something other vehicles of the Space Marines can't match. Plus, once all the vehicles are down, the assault cannon and DCCW can be trained on infantry. 2. The Whirlwind simply decimates troops while behind the safety of cover. I added Extra Armours mainly because I had an extra five points, but also because of the slight chance that it may get stunned. Tactics: Rush the Rhino forward towards the objective or a nice spot with LOS to his army if you don't play missions, while the Dreadnought and Whirlwind cover. The Lascannon squad is large because this is what is going to shot at most. This means you need abalative shielding for them. Move the assault squad behind cover as often as you can, given it's small size. |

Green for the 1000 points list and Red for the 1500 points list. Also, all these models come from the Battle force boxed set (the combat patrol list) and the Mega Force list. So, this way starting player only need to buy those two boxed sets to create these army lists and this saves a lot of money because you don't need to buy the units seperatly. I will incorporate these lists in my Starting Space Marines guide that will be posted up in the near future. Tactics will be added when this is complete.
