Hi
I just very recently (12 hours ago) got into Warhammer 40k. My parents are loaded and really don't care what I spend money on. I was just trying to decide what kind of army I should have.

I like
Shooting
Mid to Close Range mostly, Long sometimes
Hard to use
Lesser used army
Alien race
Surprises

I don't like
Large Numbers
Easy to kill
Close Combat (only if not needed, if need I'll use it)

So it's between Eldar and Tau.... What about Grey Knights? I know their troops aren't that great but I can sub those out for some Guard dudes, right?

If it was Tau - Mechanized, Definitely not static

Eldar - Vanilla to Iyanden or Vanilla to Biel-Tan

GK - Inducted Guard Heavy, GK for the Fast attack only

Firmly in the "Marine" category, along with Chaos and Necrons. Frankly, they have no place outside of Fluff, because as an army they are appauling. A Grey Knight army is nigh on unplayable in its pure form, and needs stormtroopers/allies to stand a chance

Grey Knights have, individually, the best models in 40K. However, they are too pricey to really work well.

Guard/GK hybrid armies are beardy as sin.

You know what, I'm going to try to my hand at GK with Stormtroopers and Induct SM or Guard troops/vehicles later. I was at my shop till 2 am last night. I saw every army imginable, except for a Grey Knight army. So even if I don't like this army, I can just build another :
