Good morning, forumgoers!
I've visited these forums a couple of times as links from other sites, and just to have a nose around, so I thought I should join up to make the most of it! I'm a reguar lurker over on The Bolter and Chainsword and only started playing the tabletop game about three months ago with a Space Marine army, despite being a long-time fan of the Dawn of War series and an avid, voracious reader of Black Library novels. I harbour a dream of one day being a BL writer, even though I've never been published before. It looks like you have a great, friendly community here that welcomes all players, regardless of army choice (which I'll admit is one of the key reasons I visit - I like the B&C but being repeatedly told to discuss power armour and only power armour does get stifling). I've gathered about 2000 points' worth of my DIY Chapter, the Defiant Sons, and while I do love them I feel I should branch out. So far I've been drawn to Dark Eldar, Tau Empire and Chaos Space Marine armies, but I'm aware that the DE haven't had an update in over a decade and that their models (especially my favourites, the Scourges) aren't all available. I've already got a Chaos Lord and an XV8 Crisis Suit, each of which I bought as painting projects and a possible start to those armies, so if anyone's got any advice to sway me in either direction, bring it on! =D Looking forward to chatting with you all! Od.

Welcome to TO, glad to have you aboard.
Interesting choices for your next army but (kind of obviously given the name of the forum) I'd have to go with tau. I think they would present you with not only a very rewarding army to play, but a challenge at the same time as the tau can't stand toe to toe with most like marines can, we specialise in ranged combat, and we are probably the best at it. The skill with tau is being able to utilise this as your opponent is gonna want to get up close and personal. never been a fan of chaos in 40k, quite like them in fantasy but thats a personal thing. plus i think its quite similar style of fighting to SM anyway. If you want DE, i'd recommend waiting til their update happens which can't be far away now. I say join the greater good mate.

Have you thought about Necrons? Their units are among the most powerful in the game and it's easier to collect and paint a varied army than to do so with other armies like CSMs.

Psh Dark eldar are they way to go! after all it's either torture or be tortured! But yea weclome and dark eldar are tough to start since everyhting needs to be direct ordered and they take so long to deliver (probably because they have to bust out the medieval forges to create the models just for you).
Chaos is cool! I liked there older codex since the new one is very...generic...but it's still a strong army book that can compete and is easy to start off with since they lack this thing called "choice". Best of luck on the field. |
