Hey everybody. I’m Mouse and I have been gaming for a very long time. I have been wargaming (Warhammer) since WHFB 5th edition. I have seven fantasy armies and have been enjoying playing, collecting, and painting for most of the time; although my wife may not make the same claim. I don’t get to game much though, a family and career really does get in the way of game time. I hope in time I will be able to make insightful and intelligent posts, but until then, I will do what I can.

I have very recently gotten into 40K. I have amassed a Blood Angels army, about 3500 points worth, only 2k painted though. A guy in my gaming club at home wants to sell his Tau army, cheap, and he asked me if I was interested. Most models are unpainted, and all are based. Now, I don’t know what any of the units mean, I am a newb after all. I wanted to present the list to you all and get your take on it and tell me if this is a good army.

The army includes:
1 Ethereal
4 fire warrior squads with full options
2 eight man pathfinder teams with3 sniper rifles each
Shas'o commander with cyclic ion blaster and full retinue
2 three man crisis suit teams (one kitted for anti-armor the other for anti-personnel)
6 man stealth suit squad
3 piranhas
about 20 drones (mixture of the three types)
Skyray missile boat
3 hammerheads with 3 railgun turrets and 2 ion cannon turrets
3 Broadside suits.

You'll probably want to post up that list in the Tau Army List Sub Forum to get a better and more insightful answer.
But from what I myself can tell is that it seems like a fairly solid army, though you'll want to avoid using the ethereal in games....
Are the Fire Warriors equipped with rifles or carbines?
And how much is he asking for it? If it is cheap and you've got the money and interest in it then i'd go for it. But if you buy it and realise you dont like Tau much then...

Mouse vs. Rat!

If you look a few posts down from yours I actually just recently acquired a very similar army! Yours looks even more solid than mine (by a longshot, actually), and you're getting it for only a little more. The only thing it's noticeably missing is Devilfish transports, which you will need to use your Pathfinders (and are very good for use with your Fire Warriors). Other than that it's definitely a great buy if you're interested in playing Tau (or even if you want a second army around to play with friends vs. your Space Marines!).
