Hello all,
I'm a long time fan of all things 40K, mordheim, and GW. I did the majority of my GW gaming almost 20 years ago!? My how time flies. Anyway, my first games were fought on the my kitchen table with my original plastic "beaky" marines (painted grey in honor of the Space Wolves) vs. my friends eldar. Our battles raged on for quite some time, and occasionally we fought against another player who had a legion of Squats and even some Squat terminators. From time to time we would play against other "creatures" taken from D and D miniatures to plastic toys. Second edition rolled around and I continued my hobby with armies of Imperial Guard, my beloved Blood Angels, and even some Tyranids. As time progressed, and I went off to college I found many worthy opponents and expanded into Necromunda and Mordheim. Times changed, and I began to play other games. Most notably Chronopia (a great skirmish set of rules, but now defunct), and colonial/wargames. I sold most of my armies on ebay, and then settled into the whole "real life" world of jobs and family. I never set aside my interest in the hobby, and last year my gaming group began playing Mordheim again. That lead me back to White Dwarf, and wow... has the hobby changed! Painting is better, the figures are outstanding, I was hooked again. The universe of 40K seems to have changed a bit. It feels a little more "scattered" for lack of a better word. Necrons are a playable force, look awesome, but no longer have the "mystery" factor about them. I knew squats were out a long time ago, but they've been replaced by other races and armies like the Tau and new lists for Witch and Daemon Hunters. Cool. The Imperium is still a rotting, benighted super power, but the IG looks much cleaner (both models and the codex I picked up). No more human bombs, beastmen, or penal legions, but hey at least the Commissars are still into executing troops! Also, who are the supreme bad guys now? The insatiable Tyranid, Ruinous Powers, or the Necrons? What about the Orks, they seem to have taken a back seat lately. I had some of my best battles vs. our Ork players, who always seemed to get way more into the game than any other player! Anyway... So I've made a decision, and made some purchases. I'm going to play Tau. I'm a huge fan of the Empire/IG/Space Marines, but I wanted to start anew. Sure the Tau look like militaristic Hari Krishnas (enlightenment through superior firepower!) but thats okay. I sense a much more sinister plan from the Tau... Domination of the Universe... for the greater good of course ![]() Finally, I'm very impressed with the level of maturity on these forums, and the amount of helpful information. I must admit I'm also a bit intimidated. I have never been a powergamer, or worried about what the best army set up is. I've played mostly for fun, and only once in a tournament (non GW sanctioned, just a local event). I will sift through the information, like some long-forgotten scribe of the Administratum, stuck in his alcove recording millennium old information... See you on the forums! |

the bad guy's? well, it could be said that going around and chopping off daemons heads is inpolite, damn =][= nutjobs, and i guess discriminating against humans because they don't have slits in their heads is a bit racist, over than that, all good in the universe.

Yes, welcome.
Your story mirrors mine pretty well. After returning (only about 15 years) I saw all the nifty new armies and promptly started Tau. I also hang around these forums after perusing others that were not so... uh... mature, shall we say. I can honestly say that I'm having more fun with the hobby now than when I was a kid. Hope it works as well for you. |
