Default Joining the Cadre

Hi.

I'm new to the site and relatively new to 40k. I mean I was around at the Creation, (and even owned a 1st edition Warhammer FB Box set) but other than Space Hulk I had never played 40k. I did get some Terminators and paint them up for Space Hulk way back when. I gave them to my son a year or so ago when I found them in a box in the garage.

Enter Dawn of War.

I've greatly enjoyed playing that series. My son has too. We recently moved halfway across the US and at one point went shopping for books to read in the hotel rooms. He picked out the Ciaphas Cain omnibus saying it would be something for me. I read it, enjoying it quite a lot. It got me thinking about 40k, more specifically Space Hulk, as a game we could play together face-to-face for some father-son interaction. The prices on ebay scared me off (oh, the irony) plus I'm not a fan of the auction sites anyway.

So I picked up the BGB, and ordered Macragge. But I had taken a liking to the Tau in DoW so I ordered the Codex and Battleforce too. I figured I would take Tau and my son could pick a side and we'd build 2 armies. Now I've realized that I should focus on building up the SM and Nids since I'll be playing with them first.

As of this writing I still haven't played the game yet. I still have to finish putting the genestealers together. It's hard to get them together when you're on the road. :'(

But the bug has bitten me hard. I'm visiting every shop I can find to get my fix (and see what I can fit in my luggage). I'm scouring the web in the off hours reading fluff, army lists, tactica, and the tutorials for painting and modeling.

I've scoured a number of sites and I liked this one the most so I decided to join.

Welcome to the forums. Wow seems like you are already off on a good start to a tau army. Hope this will help you learn tau and have fun with 40k. Here have the steely Dan album Katy Lied.

Try not to buy too much stuff at once, it's not good, believe me, I know from experience.

LOL. Too late. Besides the untouched Tau Battleforce, I've picked up a SM Scout Squad, a Landspeeder, a Captain, a Chaplain, a pair of Pathfinders, spore mines and a ravener. I would have gotten more, but there's only so much room in the luggage.

I know that buying all of that serves no purpose when I can't start assembly or painting till I get home, but I couldn't resist. Yesterday I was checking the TSA site to see if there were restrictions that would prevent me from putting together a little travel kit for working on minis since I'll be traveling a lot over the next year.

I was thinking a little box with glue, paint, files and brushes and a little Chessex case for the minis would be easy to get together and put in the checked bag.
