Default Former 40ker/Tau General Back in the Game

Greetings! I'm known online as ^Raven^. I've been gaming for years and have been involved with 40k since 3rd edition came out. I started off, as almost everyone invariably does, with Space Marines. I created a homebrew chapter that splintered from the Ultramarines. Part Ultramarines, part Dark Angels my chapter; Dracon Chapter: The Chromiates, used the Chromium Eldar Dragon Legend as its symbol and was ultra devout, pushing Chaplains forward as the HQ of choice.

With time I grew to field 5,000pts of Space Marines in my chapter, often fielded as "Vanilla Marines." With that endeavor accomplished I set my sight on the horizon. At that time a new race was making headlines by the name of the Tau. I read up on them, looked at the sneak peeks, read the rumors and decided I liked them and liked them a lot. I was hooked. I proceeded to create 5,000pts of Tau from Dal'yth.

My most common opponent; a friend who has more armies than God and often fielded his incredibly painted Dark Angels. From time to time I'd play against his Traitor Guard and sometimes Sisters of Battle.

It was at the time his SoB were completed that I began losing interest in 40k. I started playing Warmachine. Since the time I finished my marines I took up WFB fielding over 2,500pts, which grew to over 4,500pts, of Chaos Undivided with a hint of Tzeentch. That expanded into a 2k Beastmen army, 2k of Dwarfs, and more recently a 2,500pt work in progress Army of Sylvania. Shortly after starting Tau I also began playing the Lord of the Rings game focusing on the Last Alliance.

The deciding factor to quit 40k was my desire to begin dating again. I broke up with my girlfriend, for the 2nd time in a year or so, and wanted to look around for someone more compatible. I put all my 40k models in boxes in the basement. Shelved the rulebook and army books, I own them all for 3rd edition and some for edition 3.5 more commonly known as 4th edition along with some from 2nd edition, on my bookcases. I started to date. Fell in love with a girl I had class with, will be proposing to her sometime this year, and gave up on 40k.

I got involved with other games in the Collectible field. Namely: Heroclix, Mage Knight, Axis & Allies, and Star Wars Minis. I also dabbled in Flames of War. But, found my true calling in a small company named Mongoose Publishing. I joined their outrider program called the Mongoose Infantry. I'm now a MI who demos the Origins Winner Starship Troopers, to much success. I am also playing Babylon 5: A Call to Arms/Sky Full of Stars and Gangs of Mega-City One, which is based on Judge Dredd.

I had given up 40k and was happy with my decision. Why say this and post on a 40k forum one may ask. The answer are the new Tau. Within the past few days I've been reading up on the Tau rewrite and the new models. I realize that my Tau army is complete and that with relatively little expenditure of resources: time, money and effort, I can update my Tau completely to edition 3.5.

Once that decision was made I knew of one place to go. Tau Online. I operate my own highly successul gaming forum, which is also part of the Warvault Webring just like Tau Online, but when dealing with Tau one goes to the experts. That's why I'm here.

It has been awhile since I've even played a game of 40k so I'm rusty. Edition 3.5 is all new to me and the changes for the Tau even more new. Aside of WFB I've been out of the GW bubble for over a year. This is where Tau Online comes in. I need help getting back in and help with all the changes. If you meander over to the TO Links page @ http://tauonline.org/Links.php you'll see my online community 4th on the list.

I look forward to learning from all of you and hopefully to sharing a thing or two from my experience. I thank you all in advance and want to hit the ground running.

As the Autobots once said, "Till all are one!" Or to put it in a Tau-esque frame of mind, "For the Greater Good!"

Thank you,
^Raven^

For the Greater Good!

Welcome to Tau Online, Welcome back to 40k, and Welcome back to Tau

As you've probably already seen, we have a Rumours section here, with the two stickied threads, Tau Rumour Summary and the Graphics Summary providing all the latest info and pics that we have regarding the new codex (or at least, what we're allowed to say :\).

I hope so too. I've looked through the new codex and like the rules. Not a fan of some of the models but overall it'll be fun. I absolutely hate what they've done to Farsight though.
