Default Hi! record 6w-8l-1d, 2 inc. bugs are tough!

Ok, let me first off say “hi!” I’ve been lurking around here for about a year; it seems like a pretty good crew. Some of the postings have good (or at least well intentioned) work behind them, which is nice to see. Part off what has drawn me into the hobby and this site is an appreciation for the quality of effort put into the armies I have seen.

My first model was an XV-88 Broadside; I bought it this past January. Upon completion I found that I was happy with the results (meaning that I wouldn’t be embarrassed to show up with him at the store) this new found euphoria urged me on to buy the Tau battle-force. Having more enthusiasm than knowledge I put the whole thing together, it took forever, because I had to stop every so often and unglue my fingers, argggg! And often when I tried to put the model down half of it would still be stuck to me. It was very frustrating, but fun at the same time, as my fledgling force slowly took shape before my eyes.*

The guys at the store didn’t laugh out loud when they explained the difference between “liquid cement for plastic models” and “super glue”, they did smile a bit. What a difference.* Anyway, the army continues to grow, as does my collection of codex’s and “white dwarf”. Having started as a collector more than a general, my army is currently a little bit of everything. However, as I play more and gain experience my force “Amon Pak’s Orchid Hunters” seems to steadily drift towards Mech Tau.

I climb trees for a living, which is best done in nice weather. So as winter sets in, I spend more time doing other things, right now 40k is the big time-sink* . I’m embarrassed to say that I have probably spent some time, much time recently, on WH 40k, that should have been spent working. ;D I swore off computer games a few years ago for the same reason, once I get going with something I have to achieve a certain level of understanding before moving on. So my plan is to make 40k my “project” this winter, hopefully with diligent study, and the help of* sites like this, I will have crossed the “understanding threshold” that will enable me to disengage a little from 40k, Allowing me to get back to work come spring.

Some other background that may be pertinent; I am 33, I enjoy sailing, 4-wheeling, and big fires. My record of 40k games to date is 6W, 8L, 1 Draw, and 2 incomplete. I seem to be holding well enough vs players who field marines, or sisters, or IG; And getting stomped by Nyds. Last year I played a bunch of simulations out on paper, just to get the hang of the rules, this seemed to be very useful. The simulations allowed me to get a feel for the armies involved without all the confusion of a real time game.

I guess that’s about it, I have pretty thick skin, so if I say something that is off track, inappropriate, or just wrong, please let me know. I’m not here to offend anyone or pump my own ego, my goal is to gain an “understanding” of the game; I would much rather be corrected than remain ignorant.

In advance let me say “kudos” to the webmaster, all of the moderators, and everyone who contributes good work. To me, it seems to take much dedicated effort to maintain a site like this, thanks.*

Although I’ve only been at it for a year, I work hard to know the rules well and to keep abreast of tactical developments within the hobby. 40k is the latest incarnation of a lifelong interest in tactical games such as chess and OGRE/GEV.

Anyway, welcome to TO and I'm sure nobody needs to tell u to read the rules, since u probably already know them, having been lurking around as a guest for a year.

Have fun and good games, that's what 40K's for ;P

(PS: to make it easier to read your posts... if they are as long as this one, u should split the paragraphs up a bit, as in leave a blanc line. U will see, it is more appealing to the eye)

thanks, that is better O0*

* * *After reading my post it looks a bit ivory towerish? anyway i like playing games and modeling and meeting people at the shop; the whole "urgent need to understand" isnt quite so overpowering as it may sound. But i am enjoying putting all of these numbers and such into my spreadsheets to see what comes up. Sometimes my conclusions are quite ridiculous* :, for me thats part of the fun.

* * *I never had the opportunity to play with math in school, it always seemed like so much drudgery. I wish i had started playing 40k 20 years ago... i'm looking for a smily face with a cain and grey hair. lol

Hey Elfy! That was a dirty trick! Oh, and don't mind Elf boy, just give him a cookie and he'll go away.

So you climb trees for a living? Really! Neat! Umm...what exactly is in the trees? Or do you chop them down?

That is the way it should be now! Modelling lets you vent your anger through glue! We've all been there...(saddly, I still am!)

Anywho, be sure to read the Forum Rules and to Vote for TO! Also be sure to make a visit to the Tau Board.

And if you have any questions/concerns just contact any of the Staff and Mods.

Enjoy your stay! ~Aunny
