well I personally don't own this army, but I want to get into it. The thing you should know is that the GK are noobs at killing tanks, so you need as many dreads w/lascannons as you can fit. As an HQ, take a brother captain, with maybe 3-4 retinue of termies. For troops, you can go all out with grey knights, or you can take ISTs. Grey knights can also be used in fast attack, so you can get 2 squads of ISts for troops, and fill up fast attack with squads of 8 or so Gks in each. Don't bother w/upgrades, because if you deepstrike, you will most likely get into cc fast. So a fast army is good, especially with termies. And if you want, a goot transport for troops is a good idea. Just remember that if you are facing a vehicle-based army, then try to keep your dreads safe, or else you're screwed.

I guess this is only helpful if you're trying to create a Pure GK army.

Have you had a look at the Sample Army Lists done by MalVeauX?

It might be possible to use the point costs for the units from these lists.

And sorry if my counting isn't the most accurate

Default Re: what makes a good deamonhunters list

Daemonhunters were my first army so i may offer something here (though i am strictly radical at the moment >)

i love the look of the 2nd list but you may want some transports for the stormtroopers.

also - unless they are terminator mounted, a psycannon is far to many points for what it does (a purgation squad with 5 is 300 points for 5 models - the justicar can take one from the armoury)

i have to ask whether you have imperial guard or space marines already as the daemonhunters work best as allies to other armies (or by inducting the troops they need).

as an example these are my current 1500 point lists

Radical

HQ - Inqusitor lord with psycannon
3 heavy bolter servitors
1 sage
2 mystics

this guy provides one hell of a lot of anti-horde firepower and helps my Devastator squad spot terminators etc who think they can assault me (more on that later)

Elites - callidus assassin

this beauty is rightly feared by the enemies of the emperor. she allows you to move one of your opponents units bfore the game begins and ignores all saves (even Inv) in close combat)

Elites - 3 Daemonhosts

well, i did say i was radical . these are a bit hit or miss, they will either be the bane of your opponents existence or die in the first turn - but they do look cool and are very fun to use

Troops - 10 stormtroopers - 2 plasma guns, sgt with power weapon/bolt pistol

Troops - 10 stormtroopers - 2 Melta guns, sgt with power weapon/bolt pistol

these guys help boost my numbers and usually hold their own pretty well.

Troops - 5 allied space marines - lascannon

Troops - 5 allied space marines - lascannon

basic tank hunters

Fast attack - allied bike sqn, 4 bikes (2 with melta guns, sgt with powerfist) and an attack bike with multi-melta

tripple up as tank hunters and terminator/MC hunters

heavy support - allied devastator squad. 5 men, 4 plasma cannons

horde suppression >. they also (due to the mystics on the Inq Lord)often give me a free shot at any terminators that deep strike near me

1487 points (leaves me a few spare points for auspex, targeters or other gucci bits)
[hr]
Puritan

HQ - GK Grand master - Icon of the just, psycannon
7 GKT retinue - 1 with psycannon

HQ - Inq Lord - psycannon
3 heavy bolter servitors
1 sage

Elites - Eversor assassin

Elites - 3 death cult assassins

Elites - 3 death cult assassins

Troops - 10 stormtroopers - 2 melta guns, vet sgt with teleport homer in a chimera with multi-laser, and extra rmour/smoke launchers

Troops - 10 stormtroopers - 2 plasma guns, vet sgt with teleport homer, in a chimera with multi-laser, and extra armour/smoke launchers

1504 points (a little over but i dont use this list often)

essentiall this list relies soley on the GM arriving and causing hell (which 9 times out of 10 he does ;D)

[hr]
essentially, what type of list are you going for - shooty/assaulty/puritan/radical/allied/inducted/other

here are a few things i will point out though:

psycannons are not worth thier points on a normal grey knight (you loose the str 6 and true grit)

terminators do not work in small squads (everyone knows how harsh GKT's are and destroys them ASAP)

the only inquisitor worth it in assault is Cotaez (and then only against daemons) - always tool up your inquisitors for shooting

Brother captains are very versatile on their own - they can be attached to squads and are powerfull fire bases.

grand masters are what every opponent fears - a force weapon that can take out the forgeworld unclean one (Toughness 9) is something to be scared of >

unless you are playing a HUGE points game - never take a land raider. for the cost you can almost take a full squad of Grey knights - who are harder to destroy with a single lascannon

well my generall list was gonna come along like this for 1k not sure if it would be right though

have an inquisitor with 3 gun servitors (either heavy bolter of multimelts i havent quite decided yet) and some sages

then for troops i was gonna have 1 squad of storm troops and 1 squad of grey knights

fast attack-undecided
heavy suport
i was think of heavignn sum space marines come in here oposite to that of the inquisitor so if the inquisitor had gun serv's with heavy bolters i would have multimelta marines
and vis versa but im not really to sure i want my list in the end when i get to higher points to be more assaulty based but i was thinking atm have like some of each.. is it possible to use assault marines ain a deamonhunters army i dont have codex and hand and i cant be bothered to find it -_- lol
