Default Expanding from 1000 to 1500; and beyond!

Hey all,

Our 1000p inquisition list has now faced the enemy in train up for Golgotha, and is now 4W/1D/0L (vs. Tau, Necrons, Black Templar, Tyranids, and Chaos Undivided) It’s now time to expand. Here is what we have:

HEAVY SUPPORT:
Exorcist (Exorcist, Extra Armor) – 140
Here is our proposed expansion to 1500:

Serephim Squad: This unit will add yet more counterassault and anti-armor.
(Serephim x 6, Vet. Superior, Evicerator, Dual Fusion Pistols x 2) – 197
This sets up for our Arco-Flagellants in the 2000p list, allows us to use the Immolator as a transport tank, and provides us with much needed counter assault. (along with another 4 Faith Points for 2 faithful squads and 2 faithful characters) The last 31p will most likely be spent on a Cloak of St. Aspira for the Canoness, a Dozer Blade for the Exorcist, and leave 6 free points floating around.
We then plan to bulk up to 2500 for our final list, which will include 500p of inducted Steel Legion.

Thoughts?

WTH? Why doesn't your Canoness have a Cloak already? The difference between a 3+ and 2+ save will be a pretty big difference when she's forced to save against multiple plasma rifle/assault cannon/power fist hits.

Other than that, not bad (though the Immolator kinda stands out; I think the opponent will be gunning for it early on). I have little experience with either Celestians or Priests (well, little experience with Sisters period), but I doubt they'll do that much damage; hitting on 3's aside, they're still a pretty small squad, and won't be able to take much damage. IMHO, a another squad of Seraphim, another Battle Squad, an Exorcist or heavy bolter Retributor squad, or even some Dominions might be a better choice, since I really don't see the Celestians lasting that long in combat.

i would like to see more seraphims but thats just me. although for just being countercharge i guess they would get the job done...

other than that i see no problem with it.

Heya,

That Celestian unit, Priest and Immo is over 270 points for 6 models that are scoring models. Think about this. They're not that great in assault; they're simply `a little better' than normal Sisters of battle, but still suffer the cap of 1 attack each unless charging. Hitting on a 3+ isn't all that super unless you have loads of attacks coming, or if you have a solid STR increase; this requires lots of faith consumption to get the STR and lots of points to get models. Right away I would simply suggest you remove this unit from a 1500 point list. For 270 points, you would be far better off with two Exorcists added, which will decimate something that is insane enough to need 270 points worth of assault from 6 models thrown at it. Seriously think about that. Even 3x Penitent Engines would be a wiser and frankly better thing in assault. All of your 270 points is focused on having a unit that can deal a very small amount of realistic damage, and then they get destroyed far too easily in return; be shooting, or just return assault. You're just T3 and one attack and single wounded. To give you a comparison, 5 Terminators in assault with anything at all that is prepped for assault is likely to lose. Do you really think 5 Celestians and a Priest are going to do better? Anyhow, I know I probably just sound negative at this point, but seriously, if you want Assault and you want Sisters, use Seraphim for it. Hit & Run makes all the difference (continued renewable source of 3 attacks per model that can shoot prior to assaulting, instead of 1 attack that can't shoot before assaulting--think about this and go "Wow, haha.")

So for 1500 points, looking at your 1,000 point list, I would immediately point at a 2nd Exorcist and then a big fat squad of Seraphim. That should do it for the points. That gives you assault punch and anti-armor/monstrous creature/anything with good armor saves punch.

For thinking of 2,000 points and Arcos, that's where you toss in a Priest and attach him to a mob of Zealots (20 models for 100 points... seriously, do this instead of Celestians, they can even buy up to 4 Eviscerators in the unit itself, let alone more for the leader & priest with re-rolls with the priest). Then buy your Arcos & Pen Engine(s).

Cheers,

go point malveux zealots are definatly a good purchase due to thier massive numbers, using the priest ,the eviscerators, and the low point cost they are worth thier weight in points. also they are an ideal unit for the priest to go into!

works wonders against marines!

Hey all,

Thanks for your feedback, you all have either mentioned the value of more serephim or simply pointed out the Celestians lack of utility, so... My Lady has reconsidered the Celestians, and will instead be using the following block:

Serephim I – 8 Serephim (Vet Superior with Evicerator, 2 x Twin Hand Flamers) – 225

Serephim II – 8 Serephim (Vet Superior with Evicerator, 2 x Twin Inferno Pistols) – 241
-This decks out her Canoness for the tougher foes that she will face at the 1500+ level, adds 4 faith points, and gives us all of the mobile assault assets that we are likely to need. The Priest will be moved to a separate block with the Arco Flagellants. (See below), and theres plenty of room for my Inducted Guard; depending on how we want to expand to 2000+.

-- This Block adds more vehicles to the mix, and provides the army with some much needed long range firepower. Beyond that, I’ve always wanted a Steel Legion army, so heres my little piece of one…
We can also consider this block:

HEAVY SUPPORT:
Exorcist (Xtra Armor) - 140

--This final Block is made up of units that are “For the Fun of it”. My Lady Likes the Arcos, and isn’t unhappy with the bonuses given by the priest. The cavalry is a result of my Lady’s wish to try modeling Cybernetic Horses. The second Exorcist is there becasue I already ordered a second kit. I was going to use it for the Celestians Immolator... :-[
--In games that lack the Steel Legion, we can drop the cavalry. Instead we can take an orbital lance strike, add an Evicerator to the Battle Sister Squad, and have a few points left over.
While i like the idea of the Zealots, they don't really fit with the elite mechanized nature of the army. The arcos may seem a little out of character, but we really want to try them. (We want to find out what arcos can do to Termies... > ) If they fail us utterly, we may do a group of Zealots instead.

Put it all together and you have:

Heya,

Small elite combat units are preferred in mechanized armies. Seraphim are your #1 pick in that sense. Arcos are the #2 pick. They're ultimately deadly (seriously they outclass terminators to the point of stupidity) and can hide behind vehicles safely, and you can turn on their stimulants when it's time to show people what kind of business you mean. Penitent Engines are #3, since they too are not seen behind your wall of vehicles, and they're just hell on legs in assault against most things (though obviously they get pounded on by monstrous creatures, power fists, etc). After that, Zealots are supreme in terms of "I don't know what I'm facing, so here's 20 zealots with 4 eviscerators."

Your blocks above look good.

Cheers,

i find that people usually completely ignore the zealots or blow the crap out of 'em first turn. either way they waste time killing a bunch of nothing. Or they get assaulted by 20 guys that reroll to hit and 4 eviscerators
