Default Inquisitors, worth it?

Well, I was just wondering how many of you use inquisitors? I thought about having just an inquisitor with emperor's tarot so I can get the +1 to go first, or maybe kitting him out a tad so he is a decent combat unit. That would be the only non grey knight in my list though, so I was just wondering how many of you use them at all?

Also, if I have an independant inquisitor with a null rod, and say he joins my grand master and termies, I cannot use the force weapon to kill anything outright, right? Just triple checking.

Heya,

When I play any Inquisition force, I usually have an Inquisitor... or three. Not three, but I often run more than one. Their toys are sometimes, indispensable. It's great, for example, to have a cheap Inquisitor with a Tarot and some Mystics. Total utility scoring unit there, just keep them walking near other units with dangerous weapons and ward off the deep strikers. Never ever kit up for combat. The only kit Inquisitors and their retinues are good at having and using, is shooting. In combat, you're a facing guardsmen, nothing more. Anyhow, I like WH Inquisitors with Excruciators and a Bolter, and the DH Inquisitors with Tarot and a Bolter. Nothing crazy. And the Assassins unlock along with them.

A Null Rod is absolute. I would imagine that it would prevent a force weapon from working against you, and it would prevent you from using one, like wise. It says "none what so ever" "affect" and "regardless of source." So think of it like a psychic hood that is simply always active and always wins the dice roll, but only for your character and the squad he's attached too. And the price to pay, is that you can't use powers either.

Cheers!

I personally never take an Inquisitor unless I have to. I always take the GKGM purely because of his destructive nature and ability for a retinue- adding on DS or a LR is also adding to his effectiveness.

I used to play pure GK but as it did not work for me, I added an inquisitor with plasma pistol and power weapon with a retinue of 3 warriors with meltaguns/plasmaguns and a familiar mounted in a rhino, though i would have a chimera if I owned one.

At first this was more for the eversor assassin but they turned out to be one of my best units leaping out at short range and rapid firing, then if they get charged the Inquisitor has good enough initiative to put the power weapon to use against most opponents.

i only take inquisitors for access to demonhosts. generally i'll just give him a psycannon and a couple acolytes.

I have been toying with Inquisitor load outs lately and while a lot of their gear is very interesting I have noticed a few things that I suppose are apparent and written all over this forum in places but Ill list them here anyway.

1). Specialise, trying to be versatile with a unit like the Inquisitor is a points sink, its too easy to try and make him good at everything and put his price well into the hundreds, not including the retiue.

2). Keep it simple, nothing way too fancy, you can give him a lot of wargear but on a S3, T3 model he isn't hard to kill and with him you would lose all of that nice gear, so keep it simple.

3). Henchmen are your friend, they are cheap and very effective at what they do but once agian don't go overboard and they work great.

Inquisitors are a very interesting unit to use, they can do a lot of things, it just depends what you want to do with them. Shooting is deffinetly a strength of theirs though they can do close combat they just aren't going to be as powerful as many other cc tooled HQs.

Utsujin,

I play WH not DH, but my Inquisitor setup works for both armies. If you keep it reletively inexpensve, you can have a lot of fun. I love the fact that each member of the retinue is a character in his/her own right; and I find that the characters take on a life of their own on the battlefield. My current Experiments are:

Inquisitor Kytonus Adept (Bolter, Excruciator, Frag Grenades, Power Weapon)
And Retinue: (Totals Points) 99 + Inquisitor (38) = 137
-Rikard Glaive – Warrior (Combat Servitor, Heavy Bolter)
-Kusari Glaive - Warrior (Combat Servitor, Heavy Bolter)
-Nathan Shard – Acolyte (Auspex)
-Jack Burton – Warrior "Catachan with HB?" (Combat Servitor, Heavy Bolter)
-Tobias, Mutant Pariah – Penitent
-Samael, Sanctioned Psyker – Penitent

Alternatively, to make a more balanced unit, one of the Gun Servitors can be swapped for a Combat Servitor, (Powerfist and CCW) though this is still highly experimental for me. For 157 I can include a Plasma Cannon and 2 HB which gives a lot of good Dakka. The price of 137/157 for 3 heavy Weapons and 7 bodies (8 Wounds!) with BS4 is a great deal when You consider that an IG HW Squad with three HB costs 150 for 6 bodies at BS3, or 2HB and an Autocannon (To be a close equivilant to the 2 HB/Plasma) is 155. If I change the two penetients for a pair of Familiars, then the 7 man squad with Plasma Cannon & 2 HB = 155, the Same as the IG Fire Support Squad! ;D
The Inquisitor gives the squad a little defensive CC power, but is mostly there to be ablative wounds. The Auspex allows the squad to have a shot at those irritating infiltrating Chaos Speed Lords/Lts, and similar nasties. The Excruciator is a WH thing, and you can drop the cost of the squad by a further few points by dropping it.

For the cost/benifit, the innate character/fluffiness, and the conversion opportunities I'd never consider fielding an imperial force w/o an inquisitor.
Just my .02,
Ged of Paragon

The penitents are also WH only I believe, the DH have mystics instead, so they need to get altered too. But other than that definitely a nice and cheap Inquisitor group^^

Which lords or Normal inquisitors?, because i like taking an inquisitor lord in my IG, so I can take and assassin or 3 deathcult assassins, im a bit hesitant to take GK because they give daemons sustained attack and against a chaos army thats deadly because daemonettes and bloodletters are so nasty and they can be summoned anywhere constantly, its happened to me my mate took 9 bloodletters which just kept coming back, So an Inquisitor is a safer option as an ally.
In my DH list i take guard with assassins and other nasties its safer than letting the enemy have unlimited daemon packs.
