What do you think about using the Plastic SM scouts as ISTs? They have the same armour as an IST, and most of the weapons you could use. The only thing i could think of is modeling the Hellguns onto them.

Also, you could use them as Arbites in a WH army because of the option to make them w/ shotguns.

Just an idea, what do ya'll think?

I think you could get away with it, but it just won't look right in my opinion. SM Scouts are big models and their statline shows it. Storm Troopers have good armor, but they're small. And the other problem is, Scouts already exist in the army as a choice through allied units, so it kind of is problematic for people to get over that they are not scouts and that really they are storm troopers.

Overall, I'd say do it if you really want to. But really, I'd look for another way myself. They're just too big and already exist as a troop choice in our army's inducted ally list. Just would be odd.

Yeah, I was thinking about that myself, what if people thought they where SMs. My serch for a good plastic IST is still on.

A semi cheaper way might be Vostroyans.. that or buy Cadians and green stuff on some armor

I've tried the Cadians, they just don't look special enough. I'm currently using them, but once i get new ones they will become either models to steal bitz from or use them in a kill team. Not sure yet.

I was going to ask something like this :P

I have all ready compiled a list on my pc, however it's broke at the moment, so i'll post some stuff that I can remember

I've been looking things that would be worth to try, this is what i've figured out:

Normal stuff:

Cadian kaskrins:
10 models
Cadian Kaskrins w/ assault weapons:
2 models

this way the whole squad should be arround 50 Bucks
Cost per model 5 USD

And with this choice, You get 1 Grenade Launcher, 1 Flamer, 1 Melta gun and 1 Plasma gun
If you buy 2 squads you can use the special weapons in pairs [2 GL, 2 PG etc] , and have spare models to attach them to a 3rd OOTB squad

This would also fit for every Guard MBSEQ, like Vostroyans & Steel legion

As another potentially nice approach, you can use scouts:
2 Packs of scouts:
10 models
Space Marine Tactical Squad Upgrade Sprue
Weapons & accessories

Whole squad: 46 bucks
Obviously, 4.6 Usd per model.

Again, if you buy 2 squads, you can use the special weapons in pairs, but you’ll have tu convert the Bolters to hellguns & grenade launchers, which can be easy, just clip out the… clip… out of the bolter and you’ll have a lasgun looking bolter.. erm, hellgun.

So, you if you don’t have an space marine force, you can use this, if you have, you can always paint them in another scheme, of course it would be noted right away because they are either carrying 2 special weapons or riding on a chimera

Buy 1 Catachan box
Buy 2 Space marines Tactical Squad Upgrade Sprue
8 Models for the squad, you don’t even get the whole squad maxed out, but they’ll look like hard enforcers for sure
6.6 Usd per model [remember, you only get 8]!

Use the torso, shoulderpads and perhaps some heads of the CHSM models
Use the legs, arms and guns/weapons & heads of the Catachan set
Add special weapons as you like

Now this is what i plan to do:
Buy a box of Ca[na]dians 35USD
Buy a box of Catachans 35USD
Buy a Space marine upgrade spure [Plasma & meltaguns, plus boltuguns and some other Inquisitorial looking stuff 6USD
76 USD for 20 models
3.6 USD per trooper!

Use the Catachan legs, arms & heads, But... with the exeption that you cut the shoulders off
Use the Cadian Flak armor, and cut the shoulder pads out of the arm, then glue them to the catachan arm and you'll have a shoulderpadded catachan arm
Use heads as a mix or greenputy masks on the cadian ones

Remember with this you get: 20 models, 2 meltas, 2 plasmas, SEVERAL grenade launchers & SEVERAL flamers,
By far my favorite choice, and they look better than regular guardsmen, and have spare stuff!

I just messed arround with wich models would be nice to represent Inquisitorial storm troopers, Also, I am always running on a budget, that's why i looked for cheap but not cadian cheap* .

Also I don't particulary like metal models- not good cuz they all look the same.

MBSEQ stands for "Metal boxed set equivalent"
The space marines upgrade sprue can be found on the online store, under components of tactical marines squad.

I have a small 5 man squad of the catachan/cadian guys, a friend let me use a spare catachan sprue, but beware, the flak armour looks kinda small compared to the arms, one comment i heard of a friend was:

"What? are they wearing corses?"

haha, cuz the torsos look kinda small, but if you glue the flak armour a bit more to the front and add the backpack and add greenputy, this problem looks kinda solved
they look good enough for me :P
