What do you think is the best witch hunter unit via Overall best shooting ability.

Heya,

I think it would be more beneficial if you had criteria to compare it by. Otherwise, it's just basically spam in terms of people shouting out whatever comes to mind. It's kind of like a pole in a way, just asking for opinions, which is fine, but if they don't lead anywhere, then we consider it spam and it's not a good idea then.

So, I would advise you to perhaps re-think it a bit, then edit your post, and include criteria.

An example:

1 - Overall best shooting ability.
2 - Overall resolve in close combat.
3 - Best access to flexible gear and weapon options.
4 - Most reliable in terms of resilience and staying power.
5 - Most flavorful unit due to the Theme of the Witch Hunters.

Lots of ways to compare units... just need to take a moment to think about it

Cheers!

Curse you Malvaux! You stole my chance to throttle him!

However, there is still a little leeway... what sort of shooting do you mean? Long ranged, or up close?

Personally, nothing beats the "burning chariot of death" for me... a special weapon squad (can't remember their name, and my Codex has gone for a walk) with 4 Flamers, Sister Superior with combi-flamer, Preacher with Combi-flamer, and an Immolator Transport with TL Heavy Flamer. Burn baby!

Those would be Dominions

In terms of actual best units involved in our codex, it's going to go a lot of different directions in terms of choosing the best.

Some will choose the Exorcist due to the weapon it carries.
Some will choose a Cannoness for her obvious power.
Some will choose standard sisters of battle, for their reliability and scalability.

In short, many can and will choose their favorites, based on a quality. That quality, amongst other qualities, are things we should probably look for, to use as a base of comparison.

While it is quite difficult to truly compare each unit to each other in the codex, it stems from the differences that Sisters have. The Fast Attack, Elite and Heavy Support sisters are quite different in their roles from the normal Sisters of Battle and of course, will be costing more. The thing is, while they have "more" potential damage in one aspect, or more "use" in another, they cost more and come in smaller supplies (ie: potential lost victory points). Comparing a Seraphim team to a normal troop of Sisters for example, is difficult and can't truly be done justice since in essence, each unit in the sisters has a role and a purpose and they're designed for that.

In the end, the best unit we have should probably fall to the humble Troop Sisters of Battle. However, I'll go into it soon after we get more discussion, so that we can get a handle on what we're really looking for and avoid the spam answers.

Cheers!

Then I'll say that for my money, it's Battle Sisters all the way. In a close-range firefight, there is no more cost-effective unit than the basic Troop choice. BS4, Bolters, Power Armour, and Divine Guidance are a combination other armies would murder to have. I tend to avoid the special weapons: Flamers/Heavy Flamers are nice but only if you get a large number of enemy models under the template, which really requires either Jump Packs or a transport. Meltas are good at taking out Tanks and therefore are the #1 special weapon choice IMO. Storm Bolters are pretty naff overall.

Relatively good firepower for a relatively low price and the fact that you can take up to 20 of them in a unit (compared with a max of 10 Marines in a unit, 12 FireWarriors in a unit, 10 IG in a squad) makes them right up there with the best in a close-range firefight. The only other basic shooty units that can come in such large numbers are Eldar/Dark Eldar (less powerful weapons/lower BS in the case of the former/comparitively poor armoor), Orks (who's large model count is better for CC than Shooting due to BS2 compared to WS4/Choppas/2 basic attacks), Necrons (equally good shooting, better survivability, but 63% more points per model), and certain 'nids (who, like the Orks, tend to be far more CC oriented than shooty, leaving shooting to the Big Nids).
