A grand day out at the GW seminars - NSF56k
« on: December 15, 2008, 12:12:13 PM »
Well, it was definately exciting yesterday. The seminars were interesting, although I must admit I wish they would release more information - something I actually spoke to the guy giving it about.

Anyway, information.

Dark Eldar - currently being worked on

Guard - they gave the impression that the codex is finished, and its just the loose ends to tidy up. Assmuming this to be the case, we could see them released jul/aug maybe? next year, as we know to feb what the release is.

Space Wolves - definately next marine dex coming. There is a special wolf release early next year, but this it nothing to do with the dex - just a collector's editions model.

Lizardmen.

This was really the focus of the day, with a selection of the new models out on display for us to touch, and the book to read. Due for release February IIRC, they should prove very nice.

There's definately a return to some of the older characters - Mazdamundi is back, and bloody hard. A slann sitting on an Ancient Stegadon, who can use the Ruination of cities!

Slann have changed a lot. No more generations that I could see, now you choose a certain amount of abilities to give them, which gives some of the upgrades of the last book - Know every spell, free dice to cast etc.

Naturally they are cheaper because of this as well.

Piccies -

Temple Guard Sprue

Plastic Stegadon Sprue

The book (Mod remove if its not ok)

The models (in no particular order)

Razordon

Temple Guard Special Character

New Plastic Temple Guard

New Terradons - plastic

Tik'Tak To

Skink Character

Kroxigor and Skink togethor again!

Krox

Stegadon:

DA ORKZ!

Not a lot of info we don't already know, but some nice pics of the wave 2 release:

Battlewagon:

Dark Elf new metal Shields:

Phew, thats a lot of piccies :D Anything you want to ask about, I might be able to help out with, so shout out :)

Black Library

We got a nice presentation on the BL release schedule for the next year, with whats in the pipeline.

Horus Heresy, they claim to have enough ideas planned for 5-7 years - and they will keep making you think.

There might be a series done dealing with the aftermath (rebuilding, the Iron cage etc) but it is many years away.

A few new authors joining this year, with books soon to be released.

A nice chat with the Gav man himself (who signed my book :D) on Malekith, and other writing related things.

Time of legends series to continue, next book in each so far is being sorted. Other series may follow.

And the pics -

Time of Legends new releases

New series - the Empire army.

New Horus Heresy.
Prospero Burns is rather obvious, set from the Space Wolf point of view, whilst A Thousand Sons is set from the Thousand Son's view.

Found this quite interesting all told, it was nice to see what they have planned.

Also spoke to the man leading the seminar on the whispers of the Warhammer movie. As expected, I'd never get a solid answer, so instead I asked more "Would GW go for the idea?"

Basically, as we saw with Damnatus, GW wants to retain the ownership of their IP - nothing wrong with that at all. However, to make a movie it would be covered by the liscencing department, who would send it out to a studio (possibly CG, as we've seen how good WAR/DOW2 looked). As yet, most companies want to get in on the IP of what they make, so they can churn out crappy lunchboxes with a marine on, and obviously, thats no good.

GW basically, if the right people came along who would let GW retain the full ownership of the IP, would most likely go ahead and go for a direct to dvd movie.

Bet I got you're hopes up there :D Seriously, it makes sense they way they want to do it, its just a shame its not an easy thing to do. I'd love to see a movie. At least they are open for the idea however.

Misc pics really, from some of the game boards etc.

The nicest board in the whole place -

Ammo crate

Bugmans Xmas tree

The armies of two of our club guys:

Nurgle

Thousand Sons

Phew, that was one hell of a day. Despite the long drive, very worth it. I enjoyed the Christmas dinner immensely as well :)

This is a truly magnificent contribution to the Games Workshop News and Rumours board Kara Thrace! +2 Karma - Anton

Thanks for sharing Thrace :). The new Lizardmen miniatures look amazing, I'd seen a couple of pictures in White Dwarf but they didn't look that good. My favourites are probably Tiktak'To, the Kroxigors and Razordon, which I first though was the new Salamander, it should be interesting to see what they're like in the game.

Just as well you got those posts in, you just ninja'd me :D. Which must mean, more piccies?! :o.

Sounds like the second seminar had more info than the first one; we didn't get any info on Dark Eldar or even that much info on the Guard Codex.  Dang it...

Just to let you know, the new Terradons are metal; the models there were resin which is why they were so light.

Also, those Space Marine casualty figures will be released in February as Collector's Edition models through Direct Sales only.

Thanks for sharing the pics KT, I love that damaged Imperial Base, and looks like there are some pretty interesting books coming out soon, or else next year, and the year after that. :P   I also like the Thousand Sons army, kinda looks ghostly, as if their manifesting into the real world.

Yes! I knew I ought to have held out from buying the Ravenor books! An omnibus! Yes!!!!!!! I am sad to see no Gaunt's Ghost or Cain omnibus coming out anytime soon though :(

Great update, I love the number and quality photos you took.

The Horus Heresy info is awesome, as is the solidity of the Space Wolfiness, but you did tease about Dark Eldar and a movie, so consider me pouting.... :p
