2000 potential tournament list
« on: February 01, 2010, 03:30:48 PM »
I'm trying to put together something relatively simple, yet potent, for possible use in my first competitive tournament.  It is my understanding that such gatherings can be extremely cut-throat, so I don't expect to come in first.  But I don't want to hit rock bottom, either.  :)

HQ
Lord, rez orb, warscythe

TROOP
10 Warriors
10 Warriors

ELITE
10 Immortals
10 Immortals

FAST
3 Destroyers
3 Destroyers
10 Scarab Swarms

HEAVY
Monolith
Monolith

This leaves a few points kicking around for more wargear.  Haven't decided on that stuff yet, probably a phase shifter on someone.  Maybe two phylacteries.
I realize this is not a lot of troops, but I have a hard time maneuvering warriors in such a way that they claim objectives.  My basic plan is to surround them with higher toughness, more killy units, and escort them to the target by forcing things out of the way with monoliths and teleporting.
Additionally, I am thinking of dropping a monolith and the destroyer lord to accomodate a C'tan.  The only thing stopping me from this currently is the fact that there will likely be a lot of tyrranid players, and I have heard that thier gaunts can get the ability to wound anything on a 4+.  It would be pretty crummy to have my expensive death machine brought low by a horde of crappy little bugs.

All comments are appreciated!  :)

Edit:  Dropped the destroyer lord and made both immortal units x10 instead.

I feel I just don't... get the warboss on the D body. what will he do. he will be very vulnerable if he wanders out on his own.

I would advise:
1) replacing the Lord's D body with a rezzy Orb. this leaves you with 68 points, which is an extra immortal and two warriors
2) replacing the Lord's D body and scythe with rezzy orb and perhaps disruption field, and filling up remainder with a Spyder and another warrior

note that my somewhat hurried points calculations could be wrong: please correct me if so.

Well, I ran this last night against a decent SM list and managed not to lose too badly.  The Destroyer Lord really failed to perform... you were right, there was just no survivability to him.  I never really got a chance to charge anything that didn't have either a bunch of relic blades, powerfists or thunder hammers hanging out nearby.  I expected that there would be something to assault, but nothing that wouldn't smoke him in cc ever presented.
So, dropped him and used the points to add more immortals.  They did quite well and shot the klkn out of a lot of stuff before it was close enough to assault.

I am hoping to participate in a 2000 point tournament  so I have looked up a few lists:
here here here here here here here here here here here here here here here

I own 2 lords, a nightbringer, 1 tomb spider, 8 flayed ones, 10 destroyers, 30 scarab bases, 115 warriors, and 3 Monolyths. Because it is an all comers tournament I would like to be able to face anything. With the Tyranids codex being the newest, I am anticipating many Tyranids, along with about 50% Marine based armies. It will be 5 battles so I am guessing that at least 2 will be against some sort of space marine army. I need to anticipate assault and also shooting.

HQ
Lord
Elite
Should I take flayed ones?
Troop
10 Warriors = 180
10 Warriors = 180
10 Warriors = 180
10 Warriors = 180
Fast Attack
Should I take Destroyers?
Should I take scarabs?
Heavy
Monolyth = 235
Monolyth = 235
Monolyth = 235
Should I swap for a tomb spider?

Thoughts?

@ Hardcore - I Personally would run the three units of scarabs, the flayed ones and at least one tomb Spyder.
For facing Marines, I find that the Deceiver works just as well as the NB, if not better (with pinning potential) for less cost. If you're taking any sort of C'Tan against Nids, I would again chooses the Deceiver: You're hitting on a 2+ anyway, and you can run away from anything they throw at you, not just the little gribblies. And you'll want to stay away from the gribblies, especially any with Toxin Sacs or near a Tervigon. They will completely destroy a C'Tan - its happened to me many times.
