Double Phreshwing
« on: January 31, 2010, 01:51:03 AM »
Another commissioned army, another challenge - this time painting the first army since I started in actual codex colours with a standard GW theme - traditional space hulk whoopin' deathwing!

the army will include(as far as i can remember)
Belial
Librarian
2 squads of regular termies
terminator command squad
terminator assault squad
2 dreads
landraider
3 objectives (from space hulk bits)

Test scheme is a little more solemn and cold than usual deathwing as I feel it fits the theme nicely...and deathwing with lots of bright red and green end up too 'merry christmas' IMO.

Quite excited because the guy has sent me some lovely termies with all sorts of FW and space hulk bits on some cool industrial resin bases from back2basix.

first half of the army ready to roll

Oh wow, those terminators are looking sick, and the bases are simply awesome.

There's so much detail on each model, can't wait to see them painted.

And yeah, the test scheme looks great to me, I like the cold feel.

whilst the colors are nicely contrasted and painted, something seems off about it.

It is very grim dark and dirty... which makes it awesome as well.

Not only that, but the speed you paint puts me to shame (and I'm pretty quick)

Yeah theres something off about it, but hopefully thatll clear up once I finish a squad and get all the colours harmonious and junk. Glad you like the grittyness though, dont think Im even capable of painting neat n clean

crappy shot using my painting lights, but sorta shows how theyre going regardless
still gotta do the highlights on the bone, purity seals and grey bits. oh and fix up the banner.

    Very cool.
I do love those space hulk termies. They are so much more dramatic than the boxed set termies!

decided to finish off the grey on the termies tomorrow morning and did a bit of work shading in the colours for the libby instead.

not bad for the first days work though, 95% finished termy squad and half a librarian  ;)

    Wow.
You paint to a standard far above mine in such a short space of time. Its brilliant how fast you paint and I really like the scheme on the librarian it really fits in with the cold space hulk theme you are going for.
    Great.

didnt do any painting today, did some scouting for painting references instead

Tonight I at least managed to do the shading in of the colours on the assault mans and did a bit of work on everyone's bases...oh and cleaned up the libby a little bit.

    Looking good.
I'm not too keen on the power weapon colour, but then the army isn't for me and I'm not painting it  ;D
I just thought I'd mention the heavy flamer has no bored holes at the end, don't know whether you had intended it that way or not (the storm bolters are all bored out).

They are definitely coming together quickly though! Good job!

actually it does have the holes bored out, its just the angle of the light
either way, it doesnt bother or effect me as I had nothing to do with assembling this army

    objective markers

started the apoth aswell, hopefully get this green/grey shading on pure white to work nicely

I quite like the look of the green lightning claws and axe on the librarian hoever it does look a bit weird on the thunder hammers IMO.
    Looking great tho.

I think the green thunder hammers work actualy, would look good in maybe a darker or lighter shade than the rest? I dont know.

Amazing work. Planning anything different for the Dread?
