Poorhammer Competition [RULES]
« on: January 30, 2010, 02:12:28 AM »
Poverty, alas, is a truly debilitating condition, and it is becoming increasingly common amongst the gaming community. Not everyone can afford to hire scores of bionically enhanced workers to assemble and paint their models. Not everyone can afford to sheathe their platinum-cast miniatures in diamond-shod carry cases.  In fact, not everyone can afford to buy models in the first place.

Well, we all know how much Games Workshop want to save you money, and it just so happens that Contests HQ received a call this morning from none other than the Head of GW himself, asking us whether we could do something to promote money-saving ideas[1] so everyone has more cash to spend on important things like...oh, I don't know...prostitutes. Alcohol. Candy Floss. Anyway, being the kind-hearted gentlefolk that we are, we gladly accepted their challenge, and so this month we have for you a never-before-seen[2] competition which'll have you reaching into your cupboards instead of your wallet.

[1] - Conversation may be entirely fictional. Competition not endorsed in any way by GW.
[2] - May have been seen before.

Dates:
  • Entries can be submitted via a PM to Hive Lord from February 1st till March 22nd.
  • Voting will take place between March 23rd and March 30th.
  • Winners will be announced on the 31st of March.

Prizes:

1st Place - 10pts
2nd Place - 5pts
3rd Place - 2pts

(The top 3 all receive official TO winners seals as well).

Rules:
  • Entries consist of a 'proxy' for a single 40k model of your choice. This can be vehicle, infantry, etc. They must be recognisable as this model.
  • Entries must be constructed only from materials on the following list:

    Blu-Tack
    Paper clips
    Carrots
    Yoghurt cartons
    Plain white paper
    Pencils (regular, not colouring pencils)
    Superglue
    Matchboxes (including matches)

  • No item not on this list may be present in the model. Any tools e.g. a craft knife may be used in the construction of the model and you can alter the materials in any way you see fit within the rules
  • Model may not be painted
  • Model may include a GW base if you wish. This is the only exception to the list of materials.
  • Photos of your entry may not exceed 800x600 pixels.
  • Up to three photos of your entry may be submitted

need the carrot be peeled and sterilised?

You can have the carrot prepared or unprepared as you desire.

two questions
1.)can multiples of the ingredients be used or instance more than one yogurt or match box.

Hmmm...I was originally going for just one of each, but...hey, why not? Use as many of each of these as you want.

2.)can the items such as the matchbox be cut into pieces or must it remain intact.

You can cut up the parts however you want. The matches inside the matchbox can also be used.

Question....can the model be on a base?

It might be easier to get the model to stand up if it is, so...yeah, you can put it on a base if you want.

I'll update the rules with these points.

Does the yoghurt include bio yoghurts such as actimel that don't come in the standard pot, but instead a small bottle?

Can it just be a piece or does it have to be a unit. For instance, could we model a gun/missile platform (say from a guard heavy weapons team) but without the operators? You would still be fielding the model as a proxy and legally, but sometimes the whole thing comes in at two or three individual models (hope this makes sense lol).

Any container which originally contained something at least vaguely yoghurty is allowed.

Hmm...
That should be fine. I think anything which is one model or one 'base' is OK, even if it may not 'count' as a model for in-game purposes (i.e. a weapons platform). If that makes sense.

Oh, and I shall be entering this competition too, by the way ;). Haven't got an idea yet, but I'm working on it...

I presume any glue is acceptable (although the rules do specify superglue)...

Yeah, any glue is fine as long as you only use it for gluing (e.g. no use of those glue gun sticks as a modelling material).

Hmm... I have a feeling that there's going to be a lot of Orky vehicles.

So... what is the most complex, eye-popping, outrageous idea ...  :o

Hopefully, my country's customs don't mistake the Genestealer model as being totally made out of cocaine...
At least a 5th one, so you can launch a legal squad.
