Exactly, they would cost about 10 points each i think. 1 Per 3 suits.

Right now the most dangerous battle suit a Terminator is likely to face regularly is the Helios, which has the ability to kill 3 Temies a turn with ease, or the Aurora, which can kill 7 with a lot of luck, but the Aurora is not nearly as common as the Helios.

Gotta disagree.

A Helios can kill 2 Termies a turn with average luck, 3 is the max they will ever be able to kill, and without Markerlight support I don't see a BS3 suit hitting 3/3 shots. That's not even counting to wound and invuln rolls. Or acknowledging that said suit is probably only going to get to shoot at all for 2 turns... "with ease" is overly optimistic.

An Aurora killing 7 Termies in a Turn should be a criteria for instant defeat of the opponent. The player who does that would have such infallible luck that no further turns would need to be taken :P. The odds of an Aurora killing 7 Termies in one turn are so slim it's close to the odds of the Space Marines getting updated last in 6th Edition and getting nerfed. "With a lot of luck" is the understatement of the century.

We have the Manta for now.;D

@Ellipsisman, whilst the Aurora is unlikly to do it, its not 100% impossible. And my helios' rarely miss more than one shot. My point was that the Railrifle is not the best weapon to use against terminators. Use Missilepods if you want the range or Helios if you want the firepower.

I realize that it's not impossible, but it is far less common than the statement "with ease" implied.

And I did not contest that a Railrifle/PR combo would be less effective than a Helios suit against TEqs. Give me some credit.

I wish to quote this humorous statement and put it in my sig but I don't know how

I love stealth suits!  I really do!  I even dedicated an entire army to them!  It took days to make it work well!  Stealthsuits look awesome, they are 'invisible', they have some very scary guns, they can deepstrike and infiltrate!  AWESOME!!!!

Which is why it pains me to know that a battlesuit is always slightly better for slightly less points.

I give you much credit. The with ease only applied to the Helios, as all of its shots will wound on 2s, whereas the CIB needs 5+s. Certinly not "with ease" by any measure.

Thanks ;)

Aha. You see, I was focusing on the fact that the average Helios only has BS3 which means 1-2 hits on average at 12". I didn't think about the higher odds of wounding because the odds of even hitting are lower. Now I see why you thought the Helios could do it easy. I agree, with 2 Markerlight hits the vanilla Helios squad becomes a ferocious TEq killing force, but the standard Helios is only middling because of it's BS.

I wish to quote this humorous statement and put it in my sig but I don't know how
OFF-TOPIC TUTORIAL TIME ;)
Highlight the intended 'sig' and hit Ctrl-C or right click and select copy (I'm sure you know how to do those, I just figured it couldn't hurt to be explicit).

Go up to the top of the page, on the far right of the bottom row of links (kinda diagonal/down from the "log out" one) there is a link labeled "Profile". Click aforementioned link.

At the top of your profile summary (above the avatar image) there are two tabs. The one of the right says "modify profile" and if you mouse over it a menu appears that has "forum profile" as the second choice. Click that one.

About two thirds of the way down there's a section called "signature" *the name is on the left-hand side* (and it has a Spell Check button below it, so that might help you spot it). There's a text box for you to input your desired quote with Ctrl-V or right click and paste.

Then, at the very bottom on the right there is the "change profile" button, which saves the change(s) you've made.

And no, I didn't tell you all of this just because I am the one being sig'd. "Sig"-ing is a lovely thing to be able to do and I change my sig'd quotes semi-regularly. Now you can join in the fun. :D

Another crazy idea hit me from reading Warseer's Tau Wishlist, they were talking about wacky sci-fi gimmicks and saying something about they shouldn't have a freeze ray.

Well, if not a Freeze Ray, how about a liquid Nitrogen (or equivalent) projector that uses a template that literally freezes the target to the spot at something like 10 degrees Kelvin.

LiN Projector (Seeker Mod), Range: Template, Str: 1, AP:-, Heavy 1, Poisoned (2+), Frozen Solid.

Frozen Solid: Any model "wounded" by the LiN Projector are not removed from the board, but instead are subject to the following rules for D3 turns it takes to thaw: Cannot move; Has their Attacks reduced to 0; All hits inflicted in close combat on the model were as if the attacker was a Monstrous Creature;  All shooting hits on the model will be resolved as half-range Melta and AP: 2.

Now that sounds interesting. Would be great for hull weapons on our vehicles, or on a Piranha. Kinda like a Chemcannon.

+1 for the LiN Projector! :)

1) Vespid Killwings
WS4   BS3   S5   T4   W1   I4   A1   LD8   SV5+
- These are taken as an Elite choice.
- 1-3 per unit.
- Armed with Neutron Spike (S+2 already in profile, counts as a power weapon).
- Able to Deep Strike behind enemy lines.
- Usual Vespid special rules apply.

2) Vespid Speedwings
WS4   BS3   S4   T4   W1   I6   A2   LD7   SV5+
- These are taken as a Fast Attack Choice.
- 1-3 per unit.
- Armed with Neutron Blades (A+2 instead of +1 when beginning an assault).
- Turbo Boost replaces Fleet, Speedwings get the same cover save that vehicles do from the rule.

3) XV-15 Stealth Sniper
WS2   BS3   S3   T3   W1   I3   A1   LD8   SV3+
- Taken as an Elite choice.
- 1 Spotter plus 2-5 Snipers.
- Armed with Rail Rifles+Target Lock and Stealth Generators.
- Option to take Stealth-Protected Devilfish.
- USR: Stealth, Scouts, Move Through Cover.

The freeze ray could make hell out of unit coherency though. What would happen if the non frozen model separates from the frozen models?

If you force them to stay as a single unit, you could take a melee squad out of commission for several turns just from a single wound. If you don't, you're going to get a ridiculous amount of 'combat squads'

A third and final option would be that the non frozen models would 'push' their frozen comrades into battle, which is kind of weird.

The rules for melta, monstrous creatures would be pointless as it would only affect non vehicles only. Only the AP2 has any benefit. Overall it's a fun idea, but can make the game really complicated.

...freeze ray...this is what you guys came up with? lol

What about a stasis mine launcher or something like that, some kind of projectile weapon that explodes in an enemy unit and disorients them somehow (maybe just zaps them all with electricity like a taser), which slows their movement that turn to a 1d6? I really don't like the sound of a gun that literally "freezes" an entire enemy unit to the ground, that's kind of...silly. Even for this game.

You could give it to fire warrior squads or something and have that be their "heavy weapon" upgrade. Something like that wouldn't really be worth mounting on suits or vehicles but I could see an infantryman carrying one.

I have a few weapon ideas that could potentially cripple assaulting enemies:

What they all share:
- Range uses the Teardrop Template
- AP is negative
- All are Heavy 1 types

EDIT: I did not know for sure what the weapons' Str stats would be. Given that they don't outright inflict damage, they wouldn't be terribly strong. Maybe 5 at the most.

1) Vertigo Cannon
- Causes Pinning, but if anything survives it, their I stat and A is reduced by 2.

2) Micro Heat Cannon
- Anything hit must move as if negotiating dangerous terrain (the ground has been boiled!). Vehicles move as if negotiating difficult terrain.

3) Sonic Wave Cannon
- Anything hit has their movement cut to D3". Monster creatures are cut to D6". Vehicles are not affected.

I like the sonic weapon. It's a lot better than SUPER SCI-FI FREEZE RAY!
