Necron Rumors
« on: January 17, 2009, 02:47:35 AM »
Alright guys, post any and all rumors here.  Also discuss changes that you would like to see, or discuss changes that may happen.  We had this one before, let's keep it civil.  =]

So far what I have heard:

-WBB changed to FNP
-No more C'Tan as HQ
-New heavy support
-Necron lord with a wraith body

I had a game yesterday against a buddy of mine who plays Necrons, and my Orks steamrolled them... Necrons are in dire need of an update.

What I would LIKE to see:

 -Change WBB to FnP

-Give Warriors T5 (or even 6), and drop the armor save completely. We don't need another MEQ-army out there, and the improved T should provide ample protection, especially combined with FnP

-Give a Necron lord the ability to "resurrect" dead Necrons, much like the Tomb Kings in WHFB, back up to their original size. This can be 2d6 for Warriors, d6 for everything else.

-Give Gauss weaponry rending. As a tradeoff, make the Rifle Assault 1. Drop the current rules (though this might unbalance gameplay somewhat; the sheer number of shots Immortals can put out could make this a bit unbalanced).

-Fix Heavy Destroyers. They're just unplayable under current rules.

-Give Wraiths bigger units, re-work them.

-Do something about Pariahs. No matter what, just make them at least halfway playable.

That's just from the top of my head as a non-Necronplayer who can feel their pain ^^

Cheers,
-Bone

PS: Oh, and most importantly: Fix their fricking background. I can't hear "C'tan this" "C'tan that" anymore. Stick to the stuff written in the new Rulebook, and expand on it.

Yeah, for Gods Sakes, give 'em all +1 T and -1 Save. It's stupid how they're basicaly Marines without frags/kraks and have WWB. But I don't like the idea of giving them FNP. Then, they basicaly become Plague Marines. WWB is what makes Necrons more than an optionless MEQ. And as for the Heavy Destroyers, give them T6 and a +2 save. It's embaressing how you can instant death them with Broadsides, and how they don't have any protection against that. And yes, the Gauss weapons needs to be worked with, and Rending is a nice way to balance them.

I would hate to see FNP on Necrons. I seriously don't think that they'll change that as it's pretty much the defining aspect of Necrons.

Rending gauss weapons would be fun, it'd bring back the ability to have huge warrior-based armies, which were always my favorite thing to do when Necrons first came out.

The problem with Rending Gauss would be the abnormal amount of shots you can put out with the Necron units.
With Rending, I would make all units Assault 1, keep the range, but add +1 S. Warriors would be S5AP5, Immortals S6AP4, Destroyers S7AP4 (but Assault 2), Heavy Destroyers would keep S9, but get something else - maybe instead of rending melta weaponry, or something else nifty.

And, as said before - I'd drop their armour save completely, add +1 T, and FnP. FnP serves as armour save against small arms, and against bigger stuff, you get neither. The additional point of T represents that they are made of, well, metal. Drop the points to 10-12, and give the Lord the ability to "resurrect" a certain amount of warriors per turn. Oh, and make them count-as-fearless in CC - with the current rules, it's just too simple to just run them down in CC, which is not really fitting their background...

Cheers,
-Bone

I don't like the idea of giving us FNP, since that is weaker than WBB.

Unless they were to give us a way to negate the drawbacks of FNP, like an Orb.

Give all necron warriors slow and purposeful.  The necrons are anything but an assault army, but with their current weaponry we need to get into such a close range to be effective.  Slow and purposeful allows warriors to be laying down constant fire, exactly the way warriors should be used.  Even from a fluff perspective SaP works as the necrons are an unfaultering, steadily advancing army, give them rules that reflects their backround.

I say keep WBB as it is, does it really slow the game down that much?  Simply lay the models down, it's really not that hard.  It's because FNP is done right away that I'm against it, it takes away the dynamic that WBB brings to the table.  How exactly would FNP work with phase out if they kept it the way it is?  The reason we have phase out is to counter-act our WBB ability, because WBB is done at the beginning of the necron players turn we are given a specific time to check whether or not we are below 25%.  WBB adds a dynamic to the game that I would loathe if it was dropped.

I agree that if they changed our weapons slow and purposeful would fit us perfectly.

Perhaps make our weapons heavy and add distance and strength to them.

I heard a friend of mine say that the C'tan would be removed from the normal codex, and then they would return in apocalypse with REAL godlike powers, not the lousy wannabe gods they are now... :P

and FNP on necrons is like killing fluff alright...SoP is a great idea ^^

i really hate the idea of necrons with FNP, WBB should definitely be kept.
i also heard a rumour (or just optimism) that GW would make Pariahs, spiders and scarabs into necrons. it would certainly bring pariahs into decebnt playability, with VOD, monolith, contributing to PO...

another thing i heard was the conversion of flayed ones to troops choices

some things i would like:
  • Necrns with flamer equivalents
  • spyders upgraded to 'Tomb Scorpyons'. the two pincers at front (scorpion claws)and a gauss blaster/equivalent mounted on a 'tail' (sting)

I've heard:

WBB and PO exchanged for FNP.

Flayed Ones moved to Troops.

C'Tan moved to Apoc.

Ranked Lords (much like the Old Marine HQs were).

I definitely would like to see Wraiths bumped up to 5+ max capacity in a unit, though.

I love the current tomb spiders, they are great. No need for them to be scorpions, it's too DE like.

Ranked Lords would be fun. I agree with having mroe wraiths as well.

Im really looking forward to the new necron codex.
I dont play necrons, but if they release a new codex, and hopefully new models.
If its possible...
At least bring things like pariahs and flayed ones in plastic, then i might make a small 1k point army.

Any rumours of new models? If its possible?

Give Wraiths Rending. Give Warriors SAP. No negative modifiers to leadership. (they run away and get whomped way to easily, and that's not logical!). Flayed ones as Troops. Make Gauss Weapons (and Disruption Fields) AP1 when firing at vehicles (so they can still be destroyed on a 6). Lower point cost for Pariahs (30?). Higher point cost for Monolith (250?). Destroyers should have 2 wounds. Scarabs created by Tomb Spyders no longer disappear when Tomb Spyder is destroyed (why would they?) Tomb Spyders should be given Deep Strike (burrowing up from the ground). And finally give us some special character Lords (as hinted at in the new rulebook) to replace the likely absence of C'tan.

When a tomb spider dies, the scarabs can go off as they please, they aren't removed...
